I am 49 and was just diagnosed as Triple Neg. Breast Cancer...My mom died 14 years ago from Breast Cancer...(She was ER positive) go figure...Because of my family history etc. I decided for the BiLateral Mastectomy which I had on Sept. 24....Good thing because the "uneffected" breast had Paget's disease of the nipple. Fortunately none of my lymph nodes were involved and it is stage 2...The overall grade and numbers stink but I was never very good in school so why be shocked about this. lol. Now I will begin the Chemo soon...I am a bit nervous about the Chemo but really am ready to get it started, done, and over with....I know it will be a long haul so I will have to pull up my big girl panties and fight like a girl....As newly diagnosed, I am finding these posts very helpful...Keep on fighting on....

tatasista,
Welcome.

Welcome tatasista!

{{{{LauraJane}}}} I'm very active at NS. There's someone there who is a good resource regarding treatment options. I'll post the link below. Also, I'm med school faculty and I can do some digging for you if you want. Just PM me your stats and I can email a friend/colleague of mine who is an onc. XXOO

Titan- aside from the Pats kicking Miami's *ss and breaking all kinds of records... Bill Belichick smiled last night. That has to be yet another record!
-
Tanista- This site has been so helpful. All of these lovely women have helped me more than I can put into words. I find myself waiting to get home just to read the posts. There isn't anyone that can understand what we are going through other than all of those who are going throught it. I am so, so, so sorry about the loss of your mom. I know what you are going through is so scary to say the least. I've now done AC and Taxol (only 7out of 12) AC is rough not to scare you but just know you can get through it. There are so many things you can take for the site effects (SE's) that are so helpful. Taxol light dose has been very tolerable to me. I have even been able to work again.
Thank-you all of you for all of the sweet messages and helpful advise, prayers, well wishes etc.For the record I am not BRCA positive. I checked out the no surrender site and am still waiting to be approved. I found out I get to have surgery next Tuesday. I can't wait to get this cancer out of me. I still meet with my surgeon on Thursday so I will find out more then. My ONC said it would definintly be a MX due to the size of my tumor. I think they are going to schedule a MRI to see if and where my cancer has spread. My left arm is just aching it seems to get worse each day. Tuesday isn't soon enough for me. I guess I need to go with the flow. I was a zombie today and blew off starting my landscape job. I hope to get my s**t together and start it tomorrow.
The best thing that happened to me today was: My daughter stayed the night last night and we canned apples today. I am making home-made chicken and noodles for dinner and apple crisp for dessert and yes I will be having a big scoop of vanilla ice cream with it. A sinful meal but as cozy as you can get. A meal like this to me is like a great big hug. Mmmmm!
-
Laurajane - sounds like we all need to get on a plane and head your way for dinner. Glad to hear the surgery is Tuesday and that they are moving quickly. More (((hugs))) your way.
Tatasista - welcome, I know you didn't want to find yourself here, but the women here are wonderful!!!
hheidi/titan - I'll have to throw a little football fun out there- I am a lifelong SAINTS fan!!!
-
Laurajane - hearing you've got a surgery date for next week is one of the best things I've heard all day! I've been thinking about you.
Lol...the best thing that happened to me today was I got dinner cooked and on the table in less than 15 minutes and nobody complained about anything. Gotta love that! Sometimes it's the little things in life....
Have a nice evening ladies. I'm looking forward to Dancing with the Stars.
-
Good Laura Jane..good to get that cancer out of there! You will feel so much better...Sometimes they talk on the other threads about the lymph nodes doing their job in keeping cancer from going elsewhere in your body..hopefully that is just what your lymphs are doing...There are other women on here with large tumors that don't have mets...that could easily be you..the chemo may not have worked that well on your freaking tumor but it may have worked elsewhere..that's my story and I'm sticking to it! And your meals sound wonderful...I'm a big comfort food fan myself! Noodles are my absolute favorite food..with mashed potatoes and gravy..maybe some meat but it is the starches I like so well.
Jenn..saw Drew Breeze on 60 minutes..what a nice guy! Good luck to the Saints this year! I'm a Browns fan..we've won one game so far..we are going on Sunday to the game in Cleveland..it should be fun...50 yard line seats..all we can eat and drink..for free...so I'm planning on enjoying it fully!
Sorry..but Bill must have had gas..for him to smile..that's the only thing I can think of.

Well, as expected, I went for a haircut today and most of my lovely silver wound up on the salon floor. I'm bummed, as I really came to love it. Now, it's just a plain old brown wrapper again, with a few clusters of gray.
Who'd have thought the day would come when I'd miss my gray hair! I really hate the thought of going back to coloring it; it feels so much better without the color and perm. Almost feel silly talking about it, given the bigger picture.
-
laurajane - good luck on your surgery next Tuesday. We will all be thinking about you and sending you positive vibes!!! (((hugs)))
-
Laurajane: I'd like to chime in to everyone's well wishing. I have surgery tomorrow, and will try to get back on to see how things went with you. I've been praying for you. Tuesday will be here before you know it! On another note, since it appears you haven't been able to post on the No Surrender site, I wondered if one of these other ladies could post your question to Edge while you are waiting??? I would gladly do it myself if my surgery weren't tomorrow. My suggestion would be to pm the post you'd like to place to whoever can do it, and then just have them copy/paste it. This way, maybe you could get some advice prior to your surgery and have a little more peace of mind. Several of us, I've noticed, have recommended Edge on No Surrender.
-
I had my follow up appointment yesterday after my bilateral mastactomy and they took out the 100 staples...It feels much better and less pull when moving my arms. Just wondering if the numbness gets better or is this my new normal? My chest feels sooooooo very weird.
-
Laurajane I was so pleased to read that you have a surgery date for next Tue. Get that sucker out of there!!!! Oh and your yummy dinner is just the comfort food you need on a fall evening with your daughter ENJOY!
tatasista glad you are feeling better after your appt. Your chest will feel strange for a while because of the nerve endings being cut but it gets better over time. It of course will never feel the same but it gets better. My best advise to you is to do as much movement as you possible can and keep your posture straight it will prevent you from ending up in physical therapy.
-
laurajane- I would gladly post your questions on No Surrender as per cc4npg's suggestion. Just PM me if you'd like to do it.
Titan - I am *pissed*. You know why.Trading Moss. WTF?
-
Tiffany
Thanks for the posture reminder..I was just saying to my friend the other day as we were walking through the grocery store "remind me to stand up straight" I was never really a "sloucher" but I have noticed my center of gravity and the way I am walking is a bit different. I certainly did not even think of that...It is all quite a process and adjustment. Glad to hear the chest will feel better. I am moving. Today I was so sick of sitting around doing NOTHING I put on some Aretha Franklin and danced with my dogs...The dogs thought I had lost my mind. LOL
-
Tatasista - Welcome.
laurajane - Will be thinking and praying for you on Tuesday. What time is the procedure scheduled? I will gather some friends to lift you up .
-
CC4PNG..good luck with your surgery! Let us know how you are doing..will be thinking of YOU!
Hey Monika! How are you doing? Done with chemo...are you getting better every day? You will..
Heidi..asked the DH about Moss..he said that Moss wanted to to to Minnesota...He wasn't getting any balls thrown to him so it was what he wanted...Have you guys heard the latest on LeBron James..now he is saying that Ohioans don't like him because of his RACE..blah...that's a real WTF.....I think that he isn't the "idol" in Miami that he was in Ohio...I REALLY love sports but to call a basketball player the "King" and idolize him or her is beyond my comprehension anyway....I honestly feel that we ladies with BC are the ones that are in the REAL game..
-
tatasista - the numbness will get better, but I think it's more of you getting used to the feeling or lack thereof.....
-
Tatasista...soo..your dogs didn't give you any R E S P E C T huh? I can just imagine you with your broom or duster dancing around your house...funny stuff..
Juanita probably uses her iron as a mike..just kidding Juanita!
-
Oh..and Sugar..my gosh..where did you get all that hair? You have some serious hair now!
-
Yes Titan, I have quite a bit of hair now but I think the avatar photo is cropped so close everything looks big, i.e, my head, my face, my nose...and my hair! LOL
-
Sugar - My hair is about where yours is now. Is your hair really thick? I had thick hair before chemo, but it seems to be much thicker now. I'm repeating myself - I so need to update my picture.
-
Jenn - yes, my hair is very thick just as it was before chemo. You should update your photo so we can see how you look now!
-
The best thing that happened to me today... I went to work but was not feeling well so I left at 3:30 and cam home to take a nap. I love naps. Now I just need to sleep tonight so I can attend a meeting tomorrow at 9 am. I hope tomorrow I can eat a little more
-
Heidi: Was thinking of you (and others) as I drove north on I-95 last night, passing exit to Gettysburg. No more runaways, I hope. Is the Stud-man calmed down?
Best thing happened to me today was that I got to spend time with DS on campus and just be Mom a bit. My "baby" is 21 now.
Sugar: Adorable photo!
Laurajane: Thinking of you. Sending hugs.
-
jenn - yes, you need to post a recent photo of yourself! I would love to see the hair. Mine started growing in around #6 of weekly Taxol. It is very fine and gray! Yikes!
I can't wait - 3 more weeks and I'm done with chemo. But, then I start rads after that. Then, the hysterectomy/oopherectomy. I was thinking today about getting my nip surgery. My BS might have to do some work on me before that is done because they took a some tissue and capsule out of me, when I got dx again. So, I'm a bit smaller and have a little missing on the roundness on the lower side of my right breast. When I read my path report again, I realized they took an area about 4x3x1 cm out (along with a couple other areas around 1-2 cm). The IDC tumor was only 0.6 cm, but there were little bits of vascular invasion and DCIS in the other! Yikes!!!
-
retrievermom,
Relax. Have a really good time.
-
retrievermom-Yes! We had a *great* time!!! The weather was beautiful and the horses behaved beautifully also. I think the crash & burn incident was really a function of Stud's mouth being sore. I hadn't realized it had been two years since they were floated (cancer year brought my life to parade rest for awhile). I usually get them done annually.
Last night I went to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition's meeting for their annual big fund-raiser (Southern Lights for Living). It's the only group (semi- pink rah-rah) I actually feels is worth getting involved with. 87 cents on every dollar goes back into BC programs benefiting the patients. I will probably be a model for the program (not sure why they do that, but hey, it's something) and help wherever else I can. Also had another newly diagnosed TN contact me with her fears while there(I am a Peer Mentor but "business" is slow since tnbc is less common).
Off to Abbott's Mill now to teach about Native American Delmarva (Lenape Indians).
Have a great day everyone!

I had the thick hair after chemo explained to me that your hair is always growing (Falling out) and replacing, but after chemo, the hair is all growing until the cycle gets caught up with itself. It sounded logical at the time.
