Hi Ladies,

I finished A/C dd two weeks ago and am now suppose to start Taxotere next week for 4 rounds every 3 weeks.  Do any of you know which is better for ILC, Taxotere or Taxol?  Also, why are some protocols weekly vs every 3 weeks?  What are the most prominent SE of each?

Thanks for the info!

I have also just finished 4 doses of DD AC and I will be beginning DD Taxol next week. My understanding from my oncologist is that in studies on advanced breast cancer when Taxol and Taxotere were looked at each every 3 weeks, Taxotere resulted in longer disease free intervals then Taxol. There have been no studies that directly compare Taxol every 2 weeks to Taxotere every 3 weeks. You should speak with your oncologist about why he chose Taxotere for you. I'm sure that he/she had reasons and if they share them with you, you'll hopefully feel good about the plan. I can't imagine going through this with such young kids. Most women I've spoken with say that the AC is the harder part so I hope that you sail smoothly through your next 4 treatments. (((Hugs))) Amy

Amy - thanks for responding. Knowing Taxotere resulted in longer disease free intervals - do you know why your Onc is having you to Taxol?  I assume DD Taxol is weekly - is that correct?

    Hugs to you as well.

As you know each of these drugs come with their specific risks. I have another chronic medical condition that makes Taxotere riskier for me which is why I'm getting Taxol. DD Taxol can be given weekly x 12 or every 2 weeks x 4.
