    KMMD,  and Spring,

Thanks for the words of encouragement.  I know I'll do another 5K some day, just not now.

To cheer myself up, I went to the Coffee Dog and bought a Save the TaTas t shirt....  ;)

Got my walking in...made the mistake of going on my lunch hour Friday and it was way too hot and I was out on the trails behind work in the canyon and I overdid it - 40 minutes but I did NOT feel well the rest of the afternoon.  It heated back up out here.  But I've been walking everyday, so much so, my shins are really sore...ouch

The plank sounds like a good plan, I will definitely mix it in my exercises!!  Thanks Spring!

Harley, do what you can and there will always be another 5k, seems there's always one out here.  I wanted to do the San Francisco 5k yesterday but decided I've been doing a lot lately and a 2-hour drive to the City very early and then a 5k and then drive back wasn't a good idea!!  I can't do it all you know!  haha  (In my mind I can)...smiles

Joy, how does your body clock keep your days/nights straight?  Good luck with the house sitting, that may be fun!!

Hugs to all!  Love the 10 minute rule!!

What's with this heat again, Kari?!  It's supposed to hit 110 here today.  I'm so over it and ready for some "fall" weather, which here means anything under 100.

The 10 minute rule continues to get me out the door.  I walked 3.77 miles on Friday, rode a stationery cycle for 30 mins. yesterday (at the club; hoping to get up to an hour eventually; and it's getting easier), and walked 3 miles this morning.

Harley, it's good that you're listening to your body.  Maybe you've just hit a plateau, which is probably normal, even if the timing doesn't coincide with that 5K.  I'll bet you'll be back to setting & reaching new goals in the coming months.  Enjoy the rest your body seems to be craving right now.

Joy, I hope the house sitting deal works out for you!   Hi to everyone else!   Deanna

Its cold here, will have to see if we can blow some of the cool air your way!  I was whipped by the time I got home from work yesterday.  Not even the 10 min rule happened.  Today should be better, might skip lifting, however, got my flu shot yesterday.

Just in from my 4 mi. 600+ calorie treadmill session and my 3 sets of leg presses (170 lbs).  Am one month off Femara, not sure I can tell much difference yet in the way I feel other than the joint aches are not nearly as bad.  The feet and ankles definitely work better in the mornings which helps walking on that darlin' treadmill. The tummy pooch is changing for the better I think.  Haven't lost much weight, but am lifing weights and hopefully adding muscle, losing fat- at least arms look more defined.

Now I have to ask, 'cause I've looked back in the posts and can't find it.....

kmdd- what exactly is the 10 minute rule????

    Hugs and stay tough, ladies.

Great workout, Aspen/Rita!  You must be moving at quite a pace to burn 600 calores in 4 miles!  And how long were you on Femara?  Hopefully, your aches & pains will continue to subside now that you're off it.

We had a cloud cover this a.m., so I managed to get in a quick 2.5 miles, but I was really beat from being at the ER until 2:00 a.m. last night with DH, who got his finger in the way of a razor sharp kitchen knife.  Odd, but that's the 3rd kitchen knife accident we've had in just a few months, and the 2nd one that required an ER visit!  Not good.     Deanna

    dlb823,

thanks.  The treadmill has an elevation setting and I do the top level which is Level 20, elevation goes up to 9 % grade and then back down- like walking up and down steep hills.  That helps up the calorie count a lot and works the legs and butt too.

I was on Femara 5 years.  I'm a 3 X survivor so stuck it out even though it was tough at times.

So sorry to hear about the ER visit.  MY DH's right pointer finger got in a fight with a wood planer before my time and well, half the finger lost.  Watch those sharp things !!!!!

Yesterday I did the weights and 2 miles on treadmill. Tried to do yoga at home applying the 10 minute rule, but after 10 seconds, I could tell I was just not in the mood! (Aspen, 10 minute rule is even if you don't feel like doing it, say to yourself you'll do it for 10 minutes, and generally, you go longer anyway).

Yoga tonight! Lots of rain here. no bike riding. sad :(  sad

Well we needed the rain but this much. They say the storm this week will be worse than "Earl". I have to take a friend to New Bern for surgery on Friday. Hope the rain stops by then. Might have to put pontoons on the car. Next week I head for the mountains. But then again I can't see raking the leaves in 80 degree weather.  Yoga this afternoon before work. My body doesn't get use to the change. I either don't get enough sleep and my eating habits suck. No outside activities this week. Seafood festival is this weekend. Hugs to all

Walked after work on Monday at the Mall, brought my workout clothes and changed here at work. Much too hot to get motivated at home!  Last night wanted to mix it up - so I went to the Club and tried the bikes, a guy was on the stand up bike so I started on the bike that you're sitting on (half bike?) leaning back, then switched to the upright bike when Dude got off...OK something weird is happening with my upper legs...I've always been REALLY flexible, but since Arimidex when I do certain exercises (like biking), I get these pains in my legs (front-outside part) and it feels like my legs want to break, which is crazy.  I had to stop pedaling multiple times and try and stretch the pain out...I can't even explain it right.  So after that fiasco (only lasted 15 min on bikes) I switched to elipitcal for 35 min.  When that weird pain would come I would just switch to backward pedaling.  Well anyway, I was EXHAUSTED, my heart rate stayed pretty high, and I think I overdid it again.  Am I just a wimp or what?  My legs are sore.  I went home and stretched for a LONG time, trying to find different angles to stretch that pain out in my legs.  I don't get that pain, wondering could Arimidex cause that?  hmmm

So hot again - UGH!  maybe I should try swimming after work tonight!

Aspen/Rita - You Rock, I really feel wimpy now, heehee

Spring, been doing the plank, yikes I shake...getting stronger by the minute though!!  WOOHOO!!!!!!!

Aspen.  The 10 minute rule is that if its a day you really don't feel like it, or don't feel well, or things are so busy you don't think you can get a work out in, you tell yourself 10 min.  A lot of time getting started means you do more, but, if after 10 minutes you're watching the clock and hating it you can stop and its ok.  It keeps you from losing ground.  Something about that ten minutes keeps you from losing your muscle or endurance.  It must be enough to signal to those muscle cells that they have to keep their mass and keep dividing and not contribute to atrophy.  Plus, I think it keeps you in the routine.  I know when I get out of the habit for a few days, starting back in is harder.  Keep a couple of ten minute days in and when things get better you just keep on going.

Been doing better this week.  Works still been crazy but managed to keep the workouts going.  I'm feeling better which helps.

Thanks for the explanation of the 10 minute rule.  I'm going to apply it to a lot of things, not just exercise.

kfinnigan- I get a weird leg pain only in my right leg on the outside of the calf just below the knee sometimes when I am on the treadmill.  It does not happen all the time.  I have to slow down, stretch and gradually work it out.  Hurts like crazy when it happens. I can feel your pain.

Here in PA we are getting the heavy rain today from ex-Nicole.  Not going out, but staying in and doing some work in my little "home gym" in the basement and spending some time with Jillian and her DVDs or some of the workouts I have recorded on the DVR.   So... time to get started.

    Have a great day, everyone.

Did my walk during my lunch hour yesterday at the mall - still been above 100 degrees out here.  And after work I did apply the 10 minute rule, I put on my swimsuit and went to the Club and swam (oh boy how out of shape I am while swimming!)  Did 10 minutes of arm burning, leg burning exercise and was breathing hard!!  geez....BUT I did it!!  then proceeded to go home and take a shower and knocked my 2nd toe hard while getting in the shower! OUCH!!!!!!!!  I have a blackest toe all the way into the top of my foot.  Needless to say, I'm limping around and I'm at work in flip flops...shhhh!

Ok, today I did NOTHING!! What is wrong with me!? I have come here to confess. You ladies assign me my penance!

Kari, 10 minutes of plank??? LOL that woudl be impossible! 20 lashes with a wet noodle at least!

Tomorrow, it's either gym or cycle. The friggin rain (excuse my French!) finally passed. DH says the bike trails may be flooded though. pooh. As Joy said, we needed rain, but not this much!

WHOHOO, Rita!  Good to read that you have finished Femara.  You did 5 years on it, you say?

I am doing Femara now, and have been since Jan 1st, 2010.  Before that, I took Tamoxifen for 2 yrs. I'll be SO glad when my 5 yrs are up, so I can stop taking these drugs....  God willing....

    You ROCK!!

Harley44,  yes I pulled my time with Femara.  I still catch myself reaching for the little bottle sometimes and then remember yes...... I'm done.

Hope all of ya'll on the eastern seaboard came thru the rain okay.  I currently live in Lancaster County, PA (am a Virginian by the Grace of God) and we had lots of flooding... it was a big mess for a while.   I am on the Lancaster County Animal Response Team and was expecting to get called out, but thank goodness there were no problems.  Now drying out and turning cooler up here.  Ready for Fall.

Off to the gym.  Everyone have the best day possible.

Spring, 10 minutes of plank, did I write that?????????  Well, either way...HECK NO, no way no how could I do 10 minutes of plank, LOL!!  more like 10 seconds, haha...I just did it til I shook then held it a few seconds passed that!!  Only in my dreams...yes and in my dreams I am a lean mean fightin machine!  ok maybe for your penance you have to do 10 minutes of plank!  wait, you could probably do it!  ok I have to think of something else...heehee

I did nothing yesterday!  My bruised toe/foot are worse and I'm limping along.  I did get some stretches in before work this morning though.

Thinking of those back east dealing with the treacherous rains.  I heard on the news 5 people have lost their lives due to the storms.  So sad.

Our heat wave finally broke and will get to 92 instead of 102 today.  Hoping those of you in the desert will get some relief soon.

My sister will be moving from Silicon Valley/Bay Area to Las Vegas and me and my younger DD are helping her drive the caravan down on Oct 22/23.  This is the 3rd time I've done this for her.  The thing is she has 15 animals, 2 huge dogs and the rest are cats. The last trip was Tucson to Silicon Valley with 11 screaming cats in the SUV I was driving.  I think this time though I may just go insane!!!!!!!!!  I have a problem with saying NO!!!!

No Kari, the 10 min of plank idea was my penance! I can't do it for very long either. It's a good one to build upper body and core strength! (she makes us alternate between this and down dog in Yoga! ahhck!)

I better get to the gym. I am looking at the clock. Want to get out of here b4 5!!  My DH's bike is in the shop! Chain kept falling off. I wonder if we'll get to cycle this wkend. He was saying he may ride his old bike. I think not used for decades!!! (Braver than me!)

Kari when you get here it should be cooler, at least I hope so! Where in Vegas is she moving to?

Walked 8 miles with my DH this morning.  We bought a new car last nite and walked to go and pick it up.  He doesn't walk as fast as my training partner, but it was great spending time with him!!!

    Happy Saturday everyone.

Not too much walking with this darn bruised toe, but did go on a 40 minute walk yesterday morning with DH, just at a bit slower pace.

My sister and her hubby haven't found a place in Vegas yet, but I'm looking forward to hopefully meeting you Diane!!  Great news on the new car and what a walk!!  I couldn't do 8 miles I don't think...I'd be crawling at the end! Good for you!!

Spring, you're inspiring me on the cycling!!

Hi Harley, back running again! YAY

It finally cooled way down here, and it was chilly this morning, 57 degrees!!  What a flip flop!

    Happy Monday ALL!!

Just stopping by to say, "Hi," to everyone.  Thank goodness it's finally starting to cool off here!  I walked 4.5 miles yesterday and it felt great!  Today was more of a "10 minute rule" day, but once outside, I got in 2.66 miles, which I figured is respectable.  I also did 30 minutes of cycling at the club last night.

Sorry about your toe, Kari.  When you can get back to the gym, I also had a lot of leg & knee pain when I first started using the cycle and treadmill.  But I'd rest a day or two if it hurt, then go back to it, being careful not to overdo it, and the pain seems to be gone.  Hopefully that will happen to you, too, if you keep at it but don't overdo it.

I had lunch last week with a BCO friend I haven't seen since before her mx/Diep.  Funny how those meetings with bc sisters always seem to include steathily pulling up our shirts when no one is looking for a quick peek at "the results!"   Tomorrow UCLA Plastic Surgery is having an Open House, and I'm hoping to meet a few more women I've gotten to know on BCO.

I hope everyone's getting out and enjoying the cooler weather!    Deanna

Deanna, I'm hoping that I will be OK at the gym, I plan to go tonight!  I think that is SO great that you meet up with BCO sisters!!!  We all just "get" one another.  Glad its finally starting to cool off for you!

DH and I went for a faster paced walk after work yesterday.  My toe/foot is finally allowing me to walk more normal, still looks AWFUL!  DH's PT is coming along, although his PT told him he needs to start "pushing it" on one of the exercises before he can progress to the next set of exercises.  So DH is determined to do that...he also did 2.5 miles on the treadmill this a.m., a mile running without stopping (which he hasn't attempted running in years) and then went another 1.5 of fast paced run/walking.  I plan to go the gym/club after work today, so now that I've written it, I WILL do it!!

I am off to the gym now to do my weight routine and then cycle 5 miles or so. I have my reading material with me. Chilly here too. But sort of nice for a change, I must admit. :)

The weather finally turned!!!!! I love being able to walk around the block and not sweat before the 2nd house.  Kari, I am looking forward to meeting you also.

This weekend I will have the training week from h***. On Saturday I am scheduled to do 18, and on Sunday 13.  I hope it stays cool for that.

I feel so lucky to have found all of you.  The support is amazing.  In a couple of weeks I have my anniversary of my yucky mammogram.  I know that will be very emotional.  I will never go have one again without shedding some tears.  Thank you all for sharing your stories and keeping me uplifted.
