Pain in neck after radiation

Options

I just  finished  6 1/2 weeks of radiation a week and a half ago and I have a terrible muscle ache in my neck on both sides.  I can barely turn my neck to the right if I bend over it hurts I cant sleep on either side I must lay flat...I am wondering if it is because my neck was up on a plastic form for so long 5 days a week ...also my throat and ear have hurt for 3 months twice seen an ent Dr. and nothing is helping with that either... my feet hurt in the mornings too..I breezed through chemo and did Ok with rads but now that Im finished I feel like Im falling apart! Also very fatigued as well.  Any info would be great..Havent seen my onchologist in a month wont see her again for 3 weeks...

I had the same problem and my neck was swollen as well as my collar bone.  They did some tests and now I have a thyroid problem.  Hypothyroidism.  Doc said that sometimes when they do radiation to your upper chest it can mess up your thyroid.  I have been on pills now for about 4 weeks and all of my neck pain has gone away.  It scared me though as I thought it was the lymph nodes that were swollen  Good Luck!!

I'm having the same problem, and I'm 6 weeks out from Radiation.  In fact,it's getting worse and like Bot Chi, I thought it was lymph nodes.  Never thought about thyroid!!!!  Gees! Another thing to worry about.  My neck has been bothering me for several weeks.  When they put my port in, the "tube" was put in the vein up my neck instead of down my chest because the surgeon said I had "bad veins" and didn't want to puncture my lung.  So I thought it was that tube in my neck that was bothering me.

I also have a dark discoloration on my neck, and some dry patches of skin in my shoulder and back, so I know that the rads do "scatter" and affect different areas like that.  One thing I do know, I'm still soooooo tired, hungry all the time, etc.  I'll have to mention about the thyroid thing.  Is that just a blood test????

Rockermom, I was glad to see your post.  Well, sorry to hear you have neck pain but so do I!  This Wednesday will be 2 weeks since I finished rads and for the past several days my neck has been killing me.  It's giving me headaches and I've been thinking all kinds of crazy things.  I never thought that perhaps it had something to do with the rads.  I meet with my rads onc on June 12 and plan to mention it to him.

I also had neck pain.. stiff neck the whoel radiation period. I think it was from laying on that plastic 7 stiff for 20 minutes everyday.

I've also had neck pain since radiation - finished in late August and have been worried about possibility of spine mets. I also felt that it was caused by the the plastic neck support.  I'm so glad that others have experienced the same thing! But, since the last post was in July, has anyone resolved the issue with their oncs?  I told mine about it and he suggested a firmer pillow.  My surgeon suggested Motrin and hot packs.  Nothing has worked.  The pain is somewhat better but not going away. I'll ask my onc about a possible thyroid issue - any other solutions out there?

BAck pain may some time leads to serious Issue. So its better to treat it at earlier stage rather than avoiding it.
