Triple negative means that the cancer is not a receptor for Estrogen, Progestron or Her2 which are hormones.  As far as being BAD well, it has been labled as being aggressive and usually in younger women.  Other than Chemo at this time there is no additional treatments however Radiation is used.

It's not a jump for joy kind of thing, and I swore a few times when I read about being triple negative.  We tend to throw everything we have at it at the onset, due to it's agressive nature, and the fact it often presents as grade 3 type tumor. There are higher rates of triple negative in people with African ancestry and also of a certain type of Jewish ancestry (I'd have to look it up.)  The age of onset tends towards under 40, or in my case I was 42.

I have also read so many stories of women who had a negative mammogram even 6 months before being diagnosed, and then presenting with a tumor the size of 2 cm or larger. That points to the very aggressive nature. I ended up having radiation on top of my mastectomy due to the 1 mm margin from the chest wall. Granted, this could have been the case for any type of breast cancer, but being triple negative was a deciding factor for me to go on with the radiation.

Studies seem to have shown that those with TNBC who are younger than 50 when diagnosed usually are also BRCA and this seems to be very aggressive. Those diagnosed after age 50 usually, but of course not always, are not BRCA and it tends to be less aggressive.

It's more common with African Americans, younger age and the BRCA is often found in those with Jewish family background from eastern Europe ...but again..not always!

I was diagnosed at age 50. Neither here nor there..and no BRCA and I have eastern European Jewish family background.
