Finished chemo-starting herceptin alone
after 5 treatments of TCH, i just had my herceptin only treatment on Friday. I did feel a little ill the next day, but nothing like the chemo treatments. I had every symptom known and was really sick for 10-14 days after the TCH. My oncologist decided to stop my treatments at 5 instead of 6 because of my reactions and I had a very small tumor with no nodes involved and SNB negative. I will have herceptin every three weeks for 9 months. What a relief. I can't believe I actually made it through the chemo treatments, for awhile I was so sick and so depressed~~ I actually thought of stopping.
So for all those who think they can't do it, you can. If I could make it through them, anyone can.
Gonna start up my yoga classes and start walking again with my dog to get myself in shape and feeling good. Life is GOOD!!

Isabel,
Congrats on finishing chemo! What a great accomplishment. I start this Friday. Four rounds of AC then 12 months of herceptin after. I go for my port placement on Tuesday. Were you not able to walk your dog/exercise during chemo? I was counting on walking my dog each day/running to get outside and keep my spirits up. I guess everyone's different, and I won't know until I'm going through it. It sounds as if you were feeling worse than you anticipated. I'm so glad you are on the mend and moving on!
Thanks for the encouraging words. I can't wait till I am through with chemo 3 months from now.

Hi Helen,
After my treatment I would be really sick for 10 days, I mean in bed sick and that is so not me. I lost my beloved Remi, my 14 yr old golden/bernese mix the week I was diagnosed, so I think depression really got a hold of me during my treatments. She was really a treasure. I have two other dogs, one older also and a 4 yr old German Shepherd. I would walk him about two weeks after the treatment, but I was really out of breath and could not walk as far as I had in the past (3 miles every day) . I think everyone is different and because I felt so weak, and its SO HOT in Florida, it was difficult for me. It is probably better to try and keep up an exercise as best you can. I have met people that were able to continue to exercise.
I see you are ER AND PR + too, are they going to put you on tamixofen or femara after also?
Be positive and I hope your treatments are easy on your system. One thing I didn't do and should have, was to drink a lot of water. It just tasted awful. I guess I wasn't a very good patient
Before you know it, it will be over.
If you ever wanna email private message, feel free.
good luck ~ prayers and thoughts are with you..
