Have Found My Home

I met with my oncologist today, and had a lot things clarified, most better than I had hoped for.

I am most likely triple-negative.  She is sending my HER2 results out for a FISH test to be sure, but she's pretty confident.  She is also upbeat that it means chemo will do great things for me.

My doctor also staged me at IIb pending a PET scan, but she felt pretty confident that metastatisis has not happened yet.  I asked about being IIb with 4 nodes, and she said they weren't sticking together, and were actually part of the breast tissue and BEFORE the sentinel nodes.  We won't have any more info until the MRI, but she's pretty comfortable with staging me here.

I will be starting chemo on Thursday, 9/30.  We will be doing 4 doses of AC (dose sense) followed by 4 doses of Taxol.  Every two weeks.  She is okay with doing the first dose in my vein, but I'll have a port put in the following week for the rest of my treatments.

Her words to me - "my goal is to cure you."  That made me feel that at least she felt she had a shot.  I haven't felt this positive in almost a week.  So while I'm sad to be joining the TN board this way, I have a lot of optimisim at the moment, and all of you women are a large part of that.

I look forward to getting to know you all as my journey progresses!

Suze - I too am sorry you had to find us, but am glad that you have.  The women here are extremely supportive and full of information.

I did DD AC followed by weekly Taxol. I also had a port put in and am glad that I did.   I'm sure you've been reading and trying to learn more about what to expect, this is a great place to get information.  The TNBC Foundation website has a lot of information and chemocare.com has information on the chemo you will be doing.  I would suggest drinking plenty of water before, during and after chemo, it helps flush it through your system.

Know that we're here and if you have questions, need to ramble or want to vent, feel free - we've all been there.

Suze35:  Sorry you are going through this, but I am glad you found this forum.  You will find a lot of helpful positive information here. It sounds like you have a very good oncologist.

I am staged 2b also and I am doing chemo before surgery also, which sounds like what you are doing.  I have only one treatment left!

I have a port also and it has worked very well for me.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.  Good luck to you!
