Visit to Oncl. Any thoughts?
Hi to all. Just went to oncologist today. Here's the deal. Had L mast. 2005-with mulitple +nodes, ilc, chemo, rads. Had R mast. 10 days ago, ilc, no nodes involved, 2-5mm areas, rest of breast tissue negative. Hormone receptor negative (left side was positive-and have been taking arimidex). Onc. thoughts were stay on arimidex, kinda unsure about the chemo, saying it would give me 1-2% change of not getting it. Any thoughts out there? They did not do the onco type. was explained that there is certain cryteria that they do that. It is a Stage I. Any opinions, would love to hear from you. A bit confused.

Hi Shari, they don't do the OncoType test for ER-, since the test measures the effectiveness of chemo and tamoxifin on ER+ cancers. I had ER+ and chose no chemo.

Hi Shari, you didn't say what the HER2 status was. What was the grade of your tumor? If you still are unsure as to what to do, go back to your doctor with any questions and record the visit. I use my cell phone now to record the conversations I have with my doctors because they talk way too fast for me to take notes. Works like a charm.
I hope you won't need chemo. You don't have to make any decisions today or tomorrow. But if you do decide to do chemo, we are here and you are not alone in this. xxx -
Hi, Shari ~ I think I'd get a second opinion -- maybe at a large comprehensive cancer center, if you haven't already. Your onc's plan may well be the best one for you; I don't know. But with a 2nd bc that's now hormone negative (a bit trickier than your initial dx), I would want more than one opinion before deciding what to do.
So sorry you're dealing with bc again, but thankfully, you've caught it early and already had some aggressive tx (the mast) for it. Deanna
P.S. If you're near any of these NCI-designated facilities, I'd get a second opinion there. They see far more breast cancer than most places, so will have experience with situations like yours:
