Mastectomy/Clean Nodes

Have a question if anyone with similar situation or has been through this.  I have posted a couple times in the past few weeks.  Here goes another question. Had L mastectomy 2005 with +nodes (many), had chemo and rads.  Had MRI 1 month ago and 2 5mm areas biopsied-positive. Had R mastectomy 1 1/2 weeks ago, sentinel node biopsy negative and rest of breast tissue clean.  Going to see surgeon for follow up tomorrow and also oncoologist tomorrow. I am hoping no treatments.  Will find out tomorrow.  Any thoughts?

I think they will treat this as a new breast cancer not reoccurance since it's been 5 years and in the other breast. At the very least if you are hormone positive I would think you would get hormone supression drugs for 5 years. Really can't say about chemo or rads.

I was taking arimidex since 6-2005, but after biopsy results, my oncologist told me to stop. Guess he will let me know tomorrow, and also I will know if I am - or +

Without knowing what's in the pathology report how can you know what to expect?  I wonder about stopping the AI's, though.  If this is a different primary do they just stop treating the first one? I thought ER+ tumors could recur many years later.  I really don't know how it works.  I guess an OncotypeDX on both the old and new tumors would help.  After all, they can do it on the old slides, too, and that would let you know if you are dealing with the same animal. Please know we are here to support you.  Come back and let us know how we can help.

Sharalou it sounds like you have been taking the arimidex for almost the 5 years they usually percribe. Who knows they may decide to put you on a different drug.

    Hi Shari,

How are you? Hoping that the mastectomy test  result did not let you undergo new treatments.

    Cheers!
