Hi girls, a question for you.......anyone on Arimidex have a sore scalp that itches like crazy and is developing small itchy bumps? I know that hair loss can be and is a SE of Arimidex and yes I have been loosing hair at a slow rate for sometime but this started about three weeks ago and is driving me nuts....feels like being a kid again and having a head full of lice......GRRRR!!!!.......any input would be gratefully accepted.

I am on Aromasin, and I have had a itchy scalp and dry little scabs for the last four months, I came to the conclusion that because my skin is so dry that it also affects the scalp, so have just tried lots of moisturizer when shampooing. But it does drive a person crazy at times , trying not to scratch. I even tried rubbing coconut oil into my scalp, but is really messy, wonder if anyone else has a solution.

Thank Justjudi, it's good to know that I'm not the only one. My skin is not so dry but has gone very thin and crepey. I have found the little bumps around the edge of the hair line of my forehead as well as the top of my head but no where else and my hair is falling out at a faster rate than before. It is possible that its as it is because of the hair loss?...who knows?....I don't.
Love n hugs to all.

Mine isn't on my scalp but my upper arms from the crook of the elbow to the shoulders. The itching has been driving me insane! I had some leftover prescription hydrocordizone and combined that with super strength benadryl itch relief and finally I got through the night without scratching myself into bleeding. I am now down to the benadryl alone and I do get a tingle but nothing like the insane itching and it seems that once the scratched open little bumps heal, they don't seem to itch as much, if at all. And, since it is on my arms, there is the added feature of little tiny bruises all over the place - so I am glad to see the weather cool - I can hide my arms until they get better - hopefully!
I would think that the benadryl super anti itch gel would do well for the scalp as the consistancy is very thin and water-like. Don't know what kind of a hairdoo you will come out with but at least at night, you can stop the itching and maybe give the little bumps some healing and maybe they will stop itching so much.
Worth a shot!
Hugs....LowRider

Thanks Lowrider, the benadryl anti itch cream sounds great I'll just have to see if its available in Aus, if not, I'll see if I can get something similar. Being in the hair I've tried natural shampoos, washing with baby shampoo, washing each day, washing every second day, washing once a week, nothing. Very annoying! I can always not poke my head out the door while I try the anti itch cream if the hair looks too gross or have a scarf handy, like hanging on the door knob....lol. At this point I'll try anything before I really get to break the skin badly and cause more problems.
Love n hugs.

chrissy...there is a CortAid brand too - something with major hydrocordizone in it that has a lighter consistancy than a cream....although it could be interesting for Halloween...you could spike it out all over...Hugs...Low

Thanks Lowrider, I'll check that one out also. I could just imagine the spiked look on a not too tall, very round bespectacled grandmother walking around with hair that stands straight up. I guess I would need to put some red and purple streaks in it just to cap the look. Wonder what my grandsons would make of that?.....LOL
Peace, strength, love n hugs. chrissy

Chrissy..... Here in Seattle no one would look twice. Sorry.
Good luck on the itchiness. I don't have that one, but wondering now if it is that dismal rain out.
Good luck. - Claire

I developed crazy bad dandruff. My hairdresser (whose sister has breast cancer) recommended Tea-Tree oil shampoo, to scrub it well with fingertips and then rinse the heck out of it. I was skeptical, but it worked for me.
-
Thanks for the heads up on the tea tree oil 33skidoo but I really wish this was just dandruff, unfortunately it's not. Not one flake in sight....siighhhhhh......but I will try it anyway cause ya just never know...it might work?
-
chrissy...don't forget the neon green streaks...that seems the fad in Minneapolis this season - and as for Claire in Seattle, she is correct...in Uptown Minneapolis, no one would really give a second look - you would fit right it! Toss on a leather jacket and you could go anywhere!
I am a-thinkin' that a combo of the tea-tree shampoo and a hydrocordizone product might just be the solution. I have found with all this crap - the strangest things work to help the strangest things we encounter. The best thing for my arm itches was clear nail polish over the spots - I, ah, don' t think that will work in the hair but if it is just awful itchy at the hairline at night (it was at night it was the worst) and you just can't stop scratching, that WILL stop it...and it does come off real easy with nail polish remover and even that took the itching down a notch or two.
-
When my daugher was on Abraxane she developed bumps in her head and she successfully used rubbing alcohol on them by applying it with a cotton ball - dapping the spots. She said it did help. I wish you well!

Thanks girls, all info greatfully received.
Lowrider...the nail polish thingy sound odd but I guess it would work because you cut off the air so no irritant....mmmmmm. I think I'll give the spikes a go....lol....not sure what color hairspray I can get here though to make the streaks. They aren't just at the hairline unfortunately but all over.
Joyce......the rubbing alcohol actually sounds quite soothing but it's not just the bumps that are itchy, its the whole head.

I am on Tykerb and sometimes have breakouts on my scalp that are itchy. My oncologist recommended that I buy some Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment shampoo. It isn't the regular Head and Shoulders in the white bottle but rather a dark blue bottle and has the ingredient Selenium Sulfide I use it occasionally and it does help me. Just another suggestion of something else you might try especially since it is affecting your entire scalp. Good luck!

Thanks Faith, suggestion much appreciated.

My head hurts and sores in my head my hair start getting thin and my hand hurt really bad

Chrissyb did you ever find a solution? I'm stage one on tamoxifen and I found this past year that I have lots of bumps and bumps and dry scaly patches that can sting with some shampoos. I switched to Biolage dandruff control shampoo a couple days a week and reduced shampooing to every second or third shower . I only use conditioner now every day. While it hasn't resolved the bumps completely it's not as dry flaky or itchy as it was.
