Hi ladies, I really feel I need some relief from my state of being....my best friend and a few others say Prozac worked really well for them.  Does anyone know if it effects our cancer in any way?  Are any Trinegs on Prozac?

So, I was told it was fine by my oncologist's nurse but then I read the disclosures and it said it can lower your blood sugar or effect diabetes.  I wonder if it raises your blood sugar some times...effecting diabetes.  I wouldn't mind it being lowered but if it raised it...well, cancer likes sugar so I've been told.  I'm going to take lower than the standard dose till I see my oncologist on October 5th.

I took 10 mg...the normal starting dose and it made me fly like on steriods....also made my lymphedema worsen becuase it made my heart pump fluid around too fast for my missing nodes.  So....I took none for a week and yet I could feel it in my system all week.  I just felt better.  Very few dark thoughts of what could happen.  A real change.  I think I will break the standard pill into crumbs and just take a smidgen each day...the lowest dose known to man kind.  I love this little drug.  Yipee for Prozac.

Meggy, i had the same problem years ago when I first started prozac.  I took a third of a capsule for a long time to get used to it.  Standard dose was not right for me although gradually I worked up.  A friend of mine, who also had problems with the starting dose said that she needed a 'pediatric' dose to start--her doc didn't believe her but then she cut way down on the dose and everything was fine.   Good luck.

    Meggy,

Are you still following a very low fat diet?  I wonder if if this could be partially responsible for not feeling like yourself.  Not enough fat will affect the brain's biochemistry.....let me know what you think.

    Best,

    Bliss

    Meggy,

I took Prozac for a while after my breast cancer and I hated it.  It made me feel like I didn't care about anything.  Doc changed me to low dose Lexapro and it is much better.  I was a triple negative.

I took just the one dose...very hard 24 hours but then I felt so much better.  Like a little jump start.  I'm going to look into a pediatric dose (great idea) or just cut it up into little bits.  I don't think it takes much of this stuff for me.  I think each of us are different...but I'm goning to say this is my first and favorite antidepressant.  I keep thinking about that Hewey Luis song "I want a new drug...one that does what it should"  I think I found it.
