Pls help - my mum has bone and lung mets
Hello, my mum has recently be re-diagnosed with breast cancer (5 years since her lumpectomy and radiotherapy). It has spread to her lungs and sternum. She is in the middle of chemo treatment and will then start Herceptin and Exemestane. I am so frightened for her. She does not have a partner so she is staying with me. I am trying to be so strong for her, but then when she goes out, I just cannot stop crying. I am keen to speak to others going through the same and also to find out if anyone has heard of Cyberknife - a new form of radiotherapy treatment in the UK that is supposed to have remarkable effects on a variety of cancers. Are there any other options aside from hormone treatment and does anyone know where can I find out about possible clinical trials? I just want to do everything I can for my mum but do not know what to look for or where to go. I would be so grateful for any help.

Hi Tracey....sorry to hear about your mom, but just know she can still live a great life despite stage IV :> There are many of us over on the stage IV forum, so if you go over there and read you will see there are many of us and all are amazing people who can give you info.
I had cyberknife on my brain, but I know others over on the stage IV have had it in other places and can help answer your questions.
There is a thread over there right now called "Wanted: 5 year stage IV survivors" Here's the link so you can see there are indeed 5 year survivors and then some!!:

Hi Lisa, thank you so much for coming back to me - i am so very grateful. I took a look at the satge IV survivors page and it is very encouraging. I am devastated about my mum and am trying to do all i can for her. It seems we are quite behind on the technology side of things compared to America, so I am trying to find a Cyberknife specialist in America now as no-one seems to be able to help here. Are you able to recommend yours? Did it have very good results for you?
Mum has just has her fifth chemo treatment and then has just one more to go which she is very pleased about. She will then start Herceptin and Exemestane. However, I have been reading on here that many people say Aromosin (not sure if that is the correct spelling) is the best. Do you happen to know?
Thanks so much again Lisa - I am so grateful for you coming back to me.

Dear Tracy,
So so sorry to hear from your Mum......I live in Jordan but am Dutch. My mom lives in the Netherlands, by herself (divorced). My brother lives in Australie.....and yes her breastcancer has also come back (we found out last week), after 3 years, in her bones (shoulder, knee, spine, neck).....with incredable pains !!! We are waiting now for treatment (is it from her breastcancer of something else...) I can cry the whole day. Just returned from the Netherlands to be with her.....but my life is in Jordan with my husband and 2 kids. This is soooooo hard !! I know how you feel. So nice you can be with your mum all the time. I bought tranquilizers at the pharmacy for myself to relax and sleep a bit. Reading all the positive comments in this site, gives me hope.......for you too !!! How old is your mum ? Just like you I am on the internet searching for treatments. Tracey you re not alone in this (unfortunately). Their are so many who live a long time with all kinds of breastcancer, why not your mum !!! Take care.....Yvette
