Help! Runny eyes and nose.

Hi Ladies, i was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I finished my 4th AC infusion 3 weeks ago and my eyes are swollen and tearing so bad, also my nose will not stop running. I went to the eye doctor and he gave me drops to put in them 3 times a day. It's been 7 days with the drops and they have gotten a little better, but they have not cleared up by any means. Sometimes my vision is also a little blurry, and i don't know what i would do if i couldn't play on the computer
. Tomorrow i start Abraxane x12 and i am worried that it will make it worse. Has anyone else had this experience? and if so is there anything that you know would help? Thanks! Good Luck to all of us in this fight!

Pumela, I experienced teary eyes from the taxotere, and my vision has definitely changed since receiving treatment. My onc told me that certain chemo drugs will cause these problems. Since my symptoms were not excessive, I didn't treat them at all. It was just annoying as all get out! I hope someone else can offer a treatment for you.
-
Twylight, Thanks! do you remeber how long it took to go away? It's not a big deal but so bothersome and since i have no hair, i kinda was thinking i could at least wear a little makeup, but i guess that's just out of the question. lol!!
-
Girl, I still wore make up w/ runny nose and all - we have to be cute! It went away almost immediately when I finished chemo in May. Do a bit of research on the internet about your cocktail and see if that could be a sympton. Until it clears, put on your makeup and keep it moving! Much love.

Hey Twylight, He He He! My nose i can deal with, it's my eyes. OK picture this, i wear black eyeliner on the tops and bottoms, i have very few eyelashes, my nose is running and there goes my eyes, black tears running down my face mixing in with the nose running! Oh well i guess i just will go all natural till i get done.
Thanks for answering my post. I did look on the computer, i think everyone just deals with it. I'm just a big baby or very vain. Take Care!!! P.S. just curious, are you all done with treatment and how are you doing? Much love back at cha! Pam

Okay, Pam, then you leave the makeup alone for now! LOL! I've just had my exchage surgery from expanders to implants 8/10, but need a hyst/oop because I'm allergic to Tamoxifen. It is scheduled for 10/13.

Pumela - Yes, I had it too, and often times "out of the blue" nosebleeds (naturally I assumed I had brain mets). It's all totally normal but very, very annoying. I had to go to work everyday and you look bad enough with no brows, lashes, hair - and I couldn't even get any eye makeup to stay on longer than 5 minutes. I sat at my desk most of the day with sunglasses on, which was also horrible because I need glasses for the computer, and the sun glasses weren't prescription, so I couldn't see anything. It got worse with my taxotere, but I can tell you that exactly 7 weeks after my last taxotere - gone - completely. What a treat that was. Hang in there - it all sucks, but it's gotta be done.
Hugs,
Linda

Twylight-Yep i'm gonna leave it alone for now. I had a lumpectomy so your talking greek to me. I think i know what the expanders are, but the hyst/oop sounds greek. I hope it all goes well for you. Let me know how it all goes. Good luck for sure!!!

Hi Linda, Thanks at least i know there is light at the end of the tunnel. I really can't wait to be done with all of this S@#%t! I hope it goes by fast. At least i don't have to work right now. I'm a bartender at the airport and i think i might scare people. Thanks for giving me some hope! Hugs back to ya!

Ladies -- let me tell you about the wonders of mineral makeup for those of you who don't currently use it. I had been using Bare Minerals but recently switched to MaryKay. Kinda torn on which I like better though. When I went through my chemo I was using BM. It doesn't run and it doesn't smear. Actually, when it would get "misty" it would dry back down nicely. When my eyes would tear I'd just pat the skin under the eys. Worked beautifully. As for eyeliner ... forget about it. I was the FULL makeup always on and long hair styled gal. THAT went out the window. LOL I learned to embrace my face without eyeliner. I know, hard to do and it took me a while to get used to it but now all these months later I still go without it and don't mind it. Chemo was an eye opener for me in more ways than I care to say. I also decided to hell with the long hair and have kept it short and platinum (the ex who dumped me in this journey forbid me to do either so I did both;)). Quite a change from the brunette/redhead I used to be but then again I'm not the same person I was before May 15th of 2009. BTW ... I had taxotere and cytoxan. My eyes changed too so I suggest an exam after you are done with treatments. One of my eyes changed drastically. Doc said they wouldn't correct themselves. Small price to pay I guess. Also, as far as makeup, check to see if there's a Look Good, Feel Good meeting in your area. They work with chemo patients on makeup techniques. All my best!

Racquel, thank so mentioning the mineral makeup. I wear Bare Minerals, too. I didn't know Mary Kay offered a mineral makeup, but i will definitely try it. You're absolutely right - it doesn't run or smear.
Pumela - hyst/oop is a hysterectomy to remove my uterus and a oophorectomy to remove my ovaries. I will be having a total hysterectomy which means removal of my uterus and cervix. The surgery will be done laproscopically.

I had this problem as well. I think I figured out that the runny nose was do to no nose hair. Nothing to slow it down. If the wind was blowing, my eyes would water & my nose would run.
This is what I have done that seemed to help. I would wash my eyes every morning with baby shampoo. This would clear up tear ducks as well as any gunk from sleeping. Later I added Zertec eye drops. This has really helped they eyes not to tear. I still have problems with the eyes because I still don't have a lot of eye lashes, even after 2 years past treatment, a real bummer. The nose running is much better now.
Hopes this helps. Love & prayers NJ

Pumela - I had a runny nose and tearing eyes pretty much throughout AC and Taxol...especially in the morning. My Onc recommended a daily Clariton. I'd take it in the morning and within an hour both my nose and eyes were fine. The problem lasted for a month or so after I finished Taxol and I just kept taking the Clariton until I didn't need it anymore.

Thanks Ladies, well since i first posted this my eyes have gotten better. I also think my nose is runny because of no nose hairs also. I do use Bare minerals also and i love it, but maybe i will try Mary Kay next time.Twylight good luck on your surgery, i had a hysterectomy about 9 years ago, best thing i ever did
but i still have my ovaries, now i wish they would have just taken them too! Thanks everyone for making me feel like i'm not the only one with these problems on this long journey. But in the end we will win the fight!!! Lots of hugs!!! Pam

Me too...4 X AC...runny nose, teary eyes and blurry vision..but this too shall pass. It lasted even a short time after treatment but not for long....finished tx June 2009 and all I can say is "what a difference a year makes". Hang in there!

Beth, thanks, i can't wait for a year from now. I'm so happy for you. Did you have any other treatment besides AC? How long before your hair started growing back? I hope you don't mind me asking :)Thanks again! Pam

A lot of times your eyes are puffy and watery because some chemos cause the tear ducts to become blocked. There are little massages you can do to help unblock the ducts.
