Yes, I'm happy it grew back...of course I am and I try so hard every day to "look at the positive" (insert eye roll here) but I need to know PLEASE that the texture, lifeless/flat top, curly back and thinning top will not stay this way.

Aside from taking thyroid medicine for years now, I am also in surgical menopause so I know they're two whammies against me but I can't imagine that I'm the first one to have these two wonderful things going on at the regrowth stage.

One year ago yesterday was my last chemo treatment so I have about 5 1/2" now.

Please ladies...those of you who are farther along than me in the hair process...please tell me your experiences! I need to hear from people who get what I'm cranking about.

I am 2 years out from chemo and my hair now is exactly the same as it was before treatment.  When mine first started to come back it was crazy curly. The longer it got the more relaxed the curls got.  Once it got to almost shoulder length, I acutally started to like it and embrace the curls, but once I started getting my hair cut again, the curls went "bye-bye" and now my hair is exactly the same as it was before I was diagnosed with BC.  Hopefully yours will go back to normal too.  I think it will.  I think most people's does go back to normal.  It just takes a while.  I agree with Madalyn, we say we won't complain about our hair ever again and we will just be happy to have hair, but those in between stages are really tough.

Hang in there.  It will come back.  It just takes time.

    Take Care,

    Karen

thanks to both of you! i appreciate your replies so much. sometimes just knowing you know how i feel eases so much.

and you're right about not cranking about the hair but i'd have to say that all my side effects from chemo are slim to none anymore but i have to face this hair thing every day!!! it is very difficult although it's thought that it should be the least we think about...

quick question, someone told me yesterday they lost their hair due to stress and started taking prenatal vitamins (she wasn't pregnant) and her hair came back. did either of you ever hear about prenatal viatmins for the hair...? folic acid or something... I'm currently taking primrose oil and biotin at 5000 mcg.

thanks again for helping me. i appreciate it so much.

I hear ya!  I'm 5'10" - 6'2" with my hair...My hair is not growing longer it's growing bigger. Everyday I get a little taller.  It's all fluffy and poofy and I just hate to think that stangers are thinking that I "styled" it this way on purpose.  I want to wear a sign that says - "No, I do not think I look good with a 2 inch long bad perm!!!  I did not choose this haircut-don't judge..."  Of courses I don't say a thing. I put my head up and my shoulders back and try to be brave and act "normal"  But it's hard!

cs34 & BrandyB...I'm in the same situation!  My last chemo was October 2009, and my hair started growing back that December. ( My avatar pic is from spring of last year).  I actually liked it better when it was sort of "buzz cut"-ish.  Now it is a hideous, curly mop and I can't stand it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  When I first wake up, it is downright frightening!
I feel so unlike myself with this horrible hair.  At times I want to blurt out to strangers, or even to acquaintances that didn't know me last year,"Yeah, I had CANCER and lost my hair to chemo...that's why I look this way!  This is not the look I was going for, I swear."
I know this too shall pass, but it really sucks waiting and hoping for my old hair. (I also fear that I will run into an old boyfriend looking this wayYell
