Only Pilates this week due to the fire (I've been displaced--mandatory evacuations) and too tired to work out. I know exercise would make me feel better, but I've been glued to the internet and TV. Maybe next week.
At least my home is safe.
Anne
-
Oh Anne, I've seen the fires on TV, that looks awful, so sorry to hear you were displaced.
Hello all. Rough rough week at work. I've kept up with the exercise though.
-
Anne - hope all is good with you now. And anyone in the line of fires in CA. be careful.
I've been going strong doing nothing! Today I waked the dog twice, mowed the yard, bathed the dog and me, sprayed the yard and went to Walmart for a friend. And now at work. Trying to get back in the swing of going to the center. It closed for a few days with "Earl" and the holiday. My college roommate was here for a week and I ran around with her. The humidity is gone for now and I hope to go to the center on Tuesday. I also need to weed my flower garden too. It feels good to get outside again. Get this- my calcium is too high. So now I have to come off of some calcium pills that I was put on because of the bone density test. It is a no win deal. I also have "tennis elbow" from the computer. What will they find next?
Going to a yoga day retreat in October. Can't wait for that. Hugs to all.
-
I've been trying to pick up my exercising more in the past few days. Can't believe how quickly I started feeling a lot less toned and unmotivated after slacking off during the worst summer heat.
Kari, per your most recent FB photos, your DH looks pretty good for having 25 staples in his head! Wow, he's going to feel like a new man when he's healed from all this surgery!
Anne, how are you and your Boulder friends doing? I haven't watched any news in a couple of days. Hopefully, the fires are out.
Hi to everyone else! Deanna
-
Anne, glad you are okay. I assume your house made it.
Over an hour of biking Sunday and Monday. Trip to Maine with gf's was good but not a ton of exercise, barring one day where there was a lot of walking.
Let's keep moving!!! Deanna, remember your 10 minute rule!
-
DH could finally get out for a walk last night, boy its getting dark early! Was sure nice to have him as a walking partner!! He gets all staples out in 2 hours!! He's making progress (slow) on his shoulder physical therapy too. I've done a lot of 'motivating' with him, he gets discouraged easily. It felt good to get out and do something over the weekend and such a gorgeous day out.
Spring, what did you think of Maine? I've never been north of Williamsburg, VA.
Anne, so happy you're back in your home.
Joy, calcium too high now? How do they determine that? I will get a bone density test in March, after 1 full year on Arimidex.
Deanna, I feel less toned all the time...trying to step it up, although for now just stepping it up in my mind! LOL
Hi to ALL! keep moving!!
-
Hi all, hope every one is doing well - walking, biking or moving in whatever is your chosen way!!!
Kari I hope DH is recovering well.
Well - today is my 25th wedding anniversary!!! Where has the time gone???
-
Ainm congrats!!! Time sure does fly. I have been walking on the weekends, but that is all. Hopefully it will cool off soon for some good afternoon walking weather. Enjoy your Wednesday everyone.

So yesterday I went to the gym for my weight-lifting. So that's good. Today I skip Yoga because there's a dinner I need to get to, and will do 2 Yoga's next week!
Kari, Southern Coastal Maine was really nice, but it's still summer-ish. I've heard everything closes down after Columbus Day up there. And then there's a long hard winter through like May! I personally am glad I live in the Southern regions where it is more temperate year round. Just sayin! But it was LOVELY to visit. The ocean comes up to the land, and instead of sand, in most areas, there are these huge rocks and stones. It looks like the pics I've seen of Scotland! We live in an amazingly diverse country.
KEEP MOVING!!! Don't forget Deana's 10 minute rule! I will employ that today and do 10 minutes of Yoga at home. There, now I've said it I need to do it! !

Ainm-Congrats on 25 years of marital bliss

Spring, I love this country! So diverse yes!! Maine sounds really nice, but only half the year!!!

Diane, hope it cools off soon for you.
Yesterday NO exercise, but more fun...today I'm pooped. 10 minute rule will be deployed today!
-
Happy 25th anniversary, Ainm! I hope you did something special to celebrate.
Stitches out, Kari? Everything go okay with that?
I've managed to walk for the past 3 days -- 5.2, 5.7, and 3.4 miles, but it's been tough. I find myself really needing to head for the bits of shade, and even standing in the shade to rest for a few moments, which I didn't previously need to do. I'll be so glad when cooler weather finally gets here, and I've learned a lesson this summer about how quickly conditioning can be lost. I now realize I cannot slack off for even a month and maintain my progress.
Joy, how much calcium were you on? I read and had also posted recently an excellent article about calcium absorption. I recall the author saying we need less calcium and a far higher magnesium ratio and more D3 than most calcium supplements provide for ideal absorption. Will try to find that and repost it here. Deanna

Deanna, have you considered bike riding for when it's hot? As you are going along you get a breeze and somehow it is easier, to me anyway, than walking in the blazing sun. We were even cycling in Hilton Head (South Carolina, near Georgia boarder) in August. Just sayin! And I found it really good exercise. Just a thought.
I still didn't do my 10 minutes of Yoga. Going to do that now!
-
For those who remember Lisa, our energizer bunny, friend her on Facebook (she's one of my friends, you can look her up).
Deanna, yes all staples out of DH, he's doing good with that but having trouble with the PT for his shoulder. The PT said he needs to push cause his shoulder is very stiff.
While on my walk during lunch yesterday I had to stop in the shade a few times, I was very sweaty when I was done. Did 2 walks yesterday. Today, nothing...family and their friends are coming to our house for an overnighter preparing for a wine open house this weekend at SIL's house (more pics on FB to come, heehee).
I need to get a better bike cause that last bike ride I did in the high 90's about did me in. My back and feet were killing me for 2 days after! weird...I think the Arimidex really plays a role in my soreness.
Edited to add: I switched to a calcium supp with magnesium and D3 and also take an extra D3 pill with it.
-
Oooh, Kari, thanks for the Lisa pointer, will find her on your friends list.
Yesterday was 1 hour and 10+ minutes of cycling on the Capital Area Greenway after work with DH. WE LOVE IT. My legs are looking so buff (well, for me anyway!).
Today is Friday, need to get to the gym for my weight training and I think today I'll do 2 miles of walking on the treadmill....
-
Now Spring, I was the one to introduce the 10 min rule, if you remember! DH and I figured out that trick to get me moving back when DS was little and things were hectic. Whats cracking me up is how well it works all these years later when we're empty nesters. Some days I get going and can do more, some days I'm watching that clock and calling it quits as soon as the ten are up.
I over did it earlier this week and it has taken a few days to get the soreness out and to be able to move again. LE acting up. I don't think weight lifting brings it on, but, I sure need to back off to get it under control again. So, all in all not a good exercise week. Feeling a little better today and DH and I have promised to get a good long workout in.
Anyone have a stability ball? Someone recommended it to me and I'm thinking it would be fun to add in something new. I have a hard time getting out to walk when it gets colder and am looking for things to take its place.
-
Oh that work out felt good. I don't think I do as well on days I don't get those endorphins. Finally, finally, finally stopped the constant weight gain since starting Tamox. The scale is eeking down about a 16th of a pound at a time (or should I say every 3 weeks) I swear. I usually try and research my meds well, but, guess not as well as I thought since I was so freakin shocked when my Onc mentioned how the gabepentin for the neuropathy and hot flashes may be doing as much for the weight gain as the Tamox and chemopause. So, I'm back to putting up with the hot flashes and weaning down off of it. Unfortunately I haven't had a sudden rush of weight leaving since weaning it in half, but, the hot flashes are going nuts again. I'll take the lack of weight gain though.
-
I hope that everyone's weekend was wonderful! Well training for this 3-day has been a blessing. It has given me something positive to focus on. this weekend my walking partner and I walked 25 miles. I know that is not even close to the 60 miles we will be doing in 3 days, but it is a start. My problem is I should weigh 100 pounds with all the walking, no I haven't lost a pound. Oh well, such is life. My pants fit better so I guess it is working somewhere. I get to Zumba tonight then that is all for the week. My DD has tennis matches after school allllllll week.
Happy Monday everyone!
-
KMMD, Sorry! Give credit where credit is due! I think the 10 min motivator is great. !!I have started using it too.
Sunday weights in the gym and a half hour on the treadmill. I think today may be a cycling on the greenway trail day.... we'll see!!!
-
25 miles!!! How awesome!!! I can't imagine how you're doing that in LV summer heat. Do you head up to higher ground to walk?
The 10 min. rule got me out the door this a.m. I am so grateful to kmmd for it. I did 3.5 miles this a.m. (still very hot here), 3.77 miles on Friday and 3.9 on Thursday. I also did a work out at the club yesterday, and spent about 4 hrs. painting (walls). Even with all that walking and sweating, like Diane, I'm not losing any weight. It scares me to think how much I'd weigh without all this exercise!
Spring, I loved your suggestion to try cycling and I probably ought to dust off the bike DH got me a couple of years ago. It sounds like you're having a great time doing it. Unfortunately, we don't have bike paths here, and I won't ride on the roads due to too many fatal bicyclist-auto accidents. But I ought to see where the closest bike paths are. Scottsdale is wonderful for that -- miles and miles of bike paths. Deanna
-
We cycled again last night! We are going on average for an hour 3 times a week. I LOVE IT!!! I remember Vivre and her husband cycling. Last night we found a new trail near the end that took us even further. (These trails are paved). I do this after work even. Last night I was really tired, but once we got out there and going, it is just so fun.
Today I need to try and get to the gym for my weight training, and also there is Yoga tonight (make up for last week) and tomorrow.
Another topic: Does anybody here have a reverse osmosis water filter? We have been using Brita pitchers, but they don't remove fluoride.
-
Springtime I am so happy to see all that biking! I am unable to do anything after work this week. I have a reverse osmosis at my sink and love it. The water tastes so clean. I do not know the brand name though.
Happy Wednesday everyone!
-
Yoga last night and tonight. Tomorrow night the Reverse Osmosis water guy comes... thanks for the info Diane!
-
kmmd, I have a stability ball, but I think I need the larger size. Do you or are you going to get one?
While watching Dancing with the Stars last night (I record it) I danced and did some aerobics. Well I used to be very good at push ups (pre bc) and I haven't tried any in a very long time....GEEZ only could do 5 (knee bent style) and it was very shaky and hard, but I plan on getting back in shape!! Went for a 20 minute fast walk/slow run interval routine last night, we've had our 2nd day of Fall like weather here...but its supposed to heat up again.
The cycling sounds fun, but I need a NEW bike!!
-
Spring, we're very happy with the Aquasana undersink water filter we put in about 3 years ago when we did some kitchen remodelling. My DH researched them all, and this one, which was very highly rated at the time, gets out just about everything the more expensive RO's do, but it was only about $200-250, as I recall. I think there was one mineral it doesn't filter out, but whatever that was, it wasn't an issue with our water here. If you're interested, I can look up the model number for you. Deanna
-
I haven't been on bc.o much lately. sorry I haven't caught up with the posts... may never catch up.
Anne, sorry to hear about the fire... hope no one was hurt....
I'm feeling kinda depressed, hoping to up my exercise....
I am doing the 'RUN FOR THE TA TAS' on Oct. 2nd.... wow, that is NEXT WEEK!!
It is only a 5K but I don't think I can do it....
Harley

I've been MIA too. My boss has me on a really screwed up schedule. Start days on Sat then go back on nights on Tues. I don't know whether I'm coming or going. It seems they are thinking that my kidneys are not processing the calcium and that could be from the celebrex I have been on. So instead of taking 2 caltrates I take one. Go back in 4 weeks for another blood test to see if the numbers are down. I am also going to VA for a few days and to get my apples. Plus I am looking at a house to rent/house sit. The guy needs someone in the house and we are trying to work something out. Nice neighborhood and I can remodel it too. It is fall and it feels like summer still. Still was 80 degrees at 11 pm for the last 3 nights.
Harley if you are like me it will take forever to get through the posts we have missed. Good luck on the run. You can do it!! Glad whoever started the 10 minute rule. It has gotten me out each day.
My son is visiting the future DIL and girls in Kansas. Congrats on 15 years Ainm. Hugs to all.
-
Joy,
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I have been feeling fatigued lately and have no motivation to go out and get exercise.... that is a BAD THING!
Hope the house sitting/renting thing works out for you. Sound wonderful!
Harley
-
Harley,
Saw your post on the running thread. Hugs. I had been looking forward to a 5K and DS said she'd even run walk with me, but, my balance and neuropathy are still bad enough I got worried about being in a crowd to try and do it and DH said basically, what are you thinking. Good goal, keep the goal, race isn't the way to do it.
I know you're disappointed, but those DH's see how we're working and what we can and can't still do better then we do sometimes. You're still a runner, keep being a runner and enjoy it
-
Well we figured out the R/O water filter we're getting - Kinetico. So that's done.
We have been cycling like crazy! Joy is right, still hot here, so the breeze of cycling is great. Friday we did an hour and Sunday 2 hours - we discovered a new trail! Very fun.
Kari, another good one for upper body is "plank". This is like just holding a "boy push up" in the "up" position, but not going down. Just try to stay there. Very good! May be a good mix in for your other push ups.
Gotta run. Hope you all are moving moving moving!!
Harley, we all feel that way some days. How about a cup of caffinated tea and then try the 10 minute rule of KMMD??
