zometa
My onc wants me to take Zometa. I went to Zometa website and read it would take at least 15 min for the infusion.....my onc said it would take 2 hours. Anyone taking this and can you give me some feedback on your experience? I was dx with metastasis to my pubic bone in Nov 2009. I am currently taking faslodex injections once a month.
Thank you so much

I am on the Zometa clinical trial. It takes about 1/2 hour total for me, with the actual infusion taking about 15 minutes. The first time I was sick with flu-like symptoms the day after, since then, no problems. Good Luck - {{{{ }}}}}

I'm taking a monthly infusion of Zometa and what use to take 45 mins. is now longer because my oncologist is at another hospital. Before they give me Zometa they do the lab work which takes about an hour to get the results. I'm assuming at the last hospital they were using the results of my lab work from the previous month which is an entirely acceptable practice I was told. Zometa can affect kidney function so this new hospital is very conservative in treatments. My first infusion made me sick but since then, it hasn't given me any problems.

I have been on Zometa for a total of about two years with a little break. It takes a total of 1/2 hour for the infusion, and I have had not side effects to speak of. Just drink lots of water the day before and after the treatment.

I had 2 doses of Zometa starting in Jan 10. My joints hurt a lot but one at time during the month. The second dose did me in, I got sciatica. One of my worst bones is the one the nerve runs through. I was in a lot of pain for 6 months. They took me off my hormone and zometa. I finally went to a pain doctor and she game me epidural steroid and I'm much better. I'm now on Aredia, I had 2/3of a dose for 4 mo. I start a full dose on the 27th. So far the Aredia hasn't bothered me at all, it just takes longer for the iv. Mary

I just had my 1st treatment of Zometa and it took almost 2 hours. They give you a bag of saline just after the IV and then a smaller bag when that is done. Don't know till later in month if tim e will be shorter. Also having Foslodex at same time

I am experiencing a lot of stiffness for the 1st couple of days. Almost feel like I have been hit by a truck. Not too much pain though. Haven't had much of an appetite for a while so that doesn't bother me. Have to be real careful cause I seem to be favoring my right side when walking and that makes it painful.

I have been on Zometa for almost exactly 3 years and have done well, except the first time, I had tremendous bone pain and flu-like symptoms. I had never had the flu before (at least in my adult life), so I was truly miserable.
Since then, Zometa can make my stomach kind of yukky, like on road trips, I've gotten car sick if I'm the passenger. So, my infusion takes about 2 hours because I get Zofran as a pre-med (for nausea), then my Zometa, then flush with a ton of saline because you're supposed to drink tons of water after a Zometa infusion. The saline gets me off to a good start with that.
I think it's a great medicine. Good luck to you!
Hugs and peace,
Jennifer

Thanks for the feedback. I also had flu-like and stiffness. Finally gone by late Wed/Thurs where I could feel normal again. If it works, I can handle the occasional discomfort.

Ive been on zometa for nearly 6 yrs, (I was lucky enough to be on the trial for it) and the infusion takes no longer than 15-25 minutes. Ive never experienced any bad side effects, I actually look forward to having it as it gives me a new lease of life and all those aches and pains I had just melt away within a few days of having it. I dont have secondaries in my bones , it was initially given to me as a preventor of secondary bc in the bones and so far its worked , I now have it every 6 weeks with no complications and will be on it for the rest or my life and I am very thankful to my doctor for allowing me to have it
