Middle Aged Memories

How many of you remember the atomic bomb drills in school?  I remember getting under my desk and being petrified.

We only had fire drills.  Although we had an earthquake here in Toronto area back in June of this year.  

I remember the fire drills and the air raid drills.  Our fire drills used the regular school bells.  They had some other siren for the air raid drills.  For them, we had to go into the halls and "duck and cover" and a few times my class went into the scary old basement where the boiler room was. 

NativeMainer, those are priceless.  I remember Space Food Sticks, we got them once, they weren't much of a hit at my house.  I can't imagine that the astronauts on the lunar mission enjoyed them much either. 

What a hoot to see the picture of  us hiding under our desks.  South Louisiana was pretty close to Cuba.

I know, I mean, haven't we all seen every Friends episode 3 or 4 times?  Lets bring back the real classics. 

My younger sister had a Crissy doll and I loved to play with it when she would let me.   I lvoe the old sit coms, TV land needs to bring some of them back!!

Every time I read one of these posts, memories come flooding back.  Too much fun.

Remembe Skee Ball, and juke boxes that actually had records in them.  Come to mention it, remember records? Those 45s that you could buy for a dollar, and it would have the hit song as well as the B side (sometimes the B sides were better than the A sides).  They had those little yellow inserts so they could be played on the HiFi.  Remember when you had to get up off the couch to change the tv channel?  

That's what I was afraid of.  I wonder why I can still see it?

It was just a picture of a box of Space food Sticks and a old Tang jar.  I remember the sound as you unscrewed the metal lid, and there was a little Tang grit on the jar!  And taking a spoon and popping the paper seal.  A lot easier to break than the super strong ones these days.

Hey Chrissy, does/did Australia have a space program.

Meece, is it the real Vegemite or the pretend cheesymite?  We are not that far forward thinking nor do we have the funds for a space program, the closest we get is a launching pad at Woomera in central Aust that the I think, Japanese have used to launch ......oh damn....I'm am brain dead today....that's it.....a satelite....daaa.

I remember my younger sister had a Chrissy doll and a very big baby doll that was life size but I can't remember the name.  Unfortunately, I was still in school in the early sixties and a young married with family in the seventies so didn't have time to get caught up with trend and such like.  I was always way too mature in the head to follow any of that....unfortunately for me i feel I actually missed out on a whole lot.  As you all post your memories here, My brain does a jump of recognition of some things and I am now living young through all your memories...Thank you.

Oh god!   I Love Lucy....I do remember most of the episodes and yes that one is very funny.  I also like the one where she is in Italy and ends up in the large barrel stomping grapes for wine.
