Has anyone with IBC had a Lat flap
I am 10 years out. I had delayed recon with tissue expanders and that worked ok for about 8 years. I then had symmastia and tried to have that repaired. I have had several surgeries now due to delayed wound healing. I am now considering a Lat Flap. I am not a canidate for a Diep or Tram. Has any of my IBC sisters had a Lat flap?

Hi Nancy,
I had a Lat Flap and am overall happy with the results.
For me the surgery was a little harder than I expected as far as discomfort afterwards. I had drains in (5) and that was pretty horrible. I had expanders placed at the time of my flap procedure. I went in every week or so for fills. The exchange was really easy to recover from. I was pretty excited to see and feel the difference with the silicone implants.
So, overall I am happy I did recon and happy with the cosmetic results of the Lat Flap. Hope this has helped some.

Congrats on being 10 years cancer free! That is so terrific and encouraging. Prayers for continued good health.

Sorry, I am only 6 months out from surgery so no experience to offer. I just wanted to say CONGRATS on 10 years. Awesome!

Thank you. And it is so good to hear that you are happy with your decision to do the lat flap. I have interview 7 PS now and 1 out of 7 of them told me that he would not do the lat flap on an IBC patient. So it really scared me. I'm glad to hear that their is hope that it will work for me.
Thanks again.

Hi Bonnie, Do you know who Elizabeth used for her Diep procedure?
Thanks,
Nancy

Thank you so much. I was reading your diagnosis. I remember when i was diagnosed at the age of 33 and i had a 3 year old son and a 7 year old son. It seems so long ago now. But, i do remember looking into their little faces and thinking I had to do everything i possibly could to be there for them. Sometimes i feel guilty worrying about all this reconstruction stuff because I am so lucky to be here with my family.

Nancy,
Thank you. I am so glad you have done so well. It is rare to find a woman under 40 who is doing well after IBC. Breast cancer in general is so aggressive in young women, I am thankful for each day I am here with my kids.

Hi Bonnie, Do you know who her Diep flap surgeon was? I think Dr. Walker is just the general breast surgeon?
Thanks,
Nancy
