Tomorrow I will go for treatment 11 of 12 Taxol/ Cisplatin. My question is the past couple of weeks my fingers and fingertips have bevome very sore and painful. I also have numbing in my feet. I am worried if this gets worse will it be permanent? I am so ready to get this over with, but I am really worried about this neuropathy.

Also, I come here daily and soak up knowledge, thanks to everyone who posts.

My neuropathy went away and most women I know of have said the same thing.  the nueropathy is partly due to the effect from taxol on your circulation so if you can do a large amount of finger circles, foot circles, it helps a great deal. the more you can keep the circulation going throughout the day, the less damage. It will take time for the nerve sheath to recover.

    good luck

Almost 3 years from finishing Taxol and I STILL have some numbness in my fingertips (but much improved !) and my feet are still numb, especially around the toes.  Nothing I can't live with, however.  For most people, it DOES go away, but I may have had a genetic predisposition -- my sister, who was treated for ILC a few years ahead of me, also has some residual numbness.

Six months and I still have numb legs, feet, and fingers.  I am taking Lyrica for it....I think it is here to stay at this point.

My last taxol was 1/19/09 and I still have foot pain/neuropathy, most likely permanent.  So much so that my Dr. has given me a disabled parking permit. The Lyrica did help some, but the Lyrica caused weight gain, fluid retention and sore hands.

I had some mild neuropathy while on Taxol but it went away.  My last Taxol treatment was in November 2008 and I have no neuropathy now and haven't for the past year.  Just wanted to encourage you that not everyone has lasting effects.  Good luck.

I did taxol and had to quit after 9 because the neuropathy had gotten so bad, ( my Dad has severe neuropathy permanently in his legs so we were being careful) but it cleared up after about 3 months.  I still have occasional tingling in toes but nothing worth worrying about.  If you are at 11 already you have got it made. Good luck  Annette

Just wanted to add-Kittydog and my experience was the same! We were in the same chemo (time group). Recently, my neuropathy has gotton worse not any better. Wish this wasn't the case!

My last Taxol was in March or April of this year. I still have painful feet, mostly in the upper part of the foot just under the toes. It feels like this area is swollen but it never goes away. My fingers are no longer tingling or numb so that is good. I too am worried that my feet will never be the same again. Trying to buy shoes with feet like this is next to impossible! My oncology nurse said that if this were to go away that it most likely would take place 6-16 months after the chemo. Looks like I still have a ways to go. At first I missed the subtle signs of the problem and then after the sixth infusion of Taxol it became clear what the problem was. I was then switched to Taxotere but don't know if that helped or not.

I was using vitamins B6 & B12.  They seemed to help a lot with neuropathy.

I had terrible neuropathy in my fingers & toes.  I couldn't button anything, couldn't get upstairs.  It's been 15 months since my last treatment.  My fingers recovered fine, but my toes were really bad, I figured I would have it for life, but I went for acupuncture & found that it helped me alot.  I had three treatments for something else & was pleasantly surprised by the loss of the neuropathy.

    Good luck, Dee
