Anyone Itching like CRAZY after lumpectomy?

This was my second lumpectomy on Aug. 18th. The first one had still not healed completely, the breast still had hard lumps and then they went in there again and did another one to clear the margins. The margins are now clear, which is great. Today is 6 days after surgery and I am itching like crazy on both my breasts (they also did an MRI biopsy on the right) and my port site which they have put on my hand. I am going out of my mind. I have applied Vitamin E oil and some neosporin on the wounds, but the surgeon did not give me any instructions about what to do step by step with the wounds. I am shocked that they just send you home like that. I don't think there is an infection or anything yet, but this is not fun what I am going through right now. The only thing I can think of is take a Vicodin and sleep the days through. Anyone with a suggestion as to what to do with the itching? And will the port site ever get better or do I have to endure this for 5 months. It is like a huge marble, big lump on my arm. Thanks.

Yes -- i was itching like craxy after my surgeries and even months later. Finally started using prescription hydrocortisone, but it caused amnesia and I could not sleep. but it helped the itching to go away.

I remember itching a lot about a week out too. It did go away. I heard it was a sign of tissue healing. If it's continuing, ask your BS what to use.

did the doctor use surgical tape on your wounds? I had terrible itching after 1st lumpectomy, was an allergic reaction from the betadine they left on my skin, you could try taking benadryl, also helps you to sleep. I wish you quick healing and good luck

I had a terrible itching reaction to Vitamin E oil. My surgeon had recommended it for an incision to soften the scar. As soon as I stopped the oil the itching stopped. FWIW :-)

I find cream doesn't work for me but antihistamines work great and you can get non drowsy type.
