    I think the song "You're So Vain" is supposedly written about Warren Beatty after she broke up with him.  I guess he was a self-centered so and so! :)

    My hubby writes songs for fun and i always say is that about me? Then he sings your so vain you always think this song is about you--- Song sucks is all i can say LOL

    Kate, hmm I wonder if she wrote it for someone else and Warren Beatty was vain enough to call her and ask if it were him.  He does seem to be more vain than laid back James Taylor.

    That song Electric Avenue drives me bonkers...so boring! AND my husband's band learned it for a wedding and now they play it every gig! BARF!

    While being a Nine Inch Nails fan (sorry non NIN fans) the song Hurt can irritate me sometimes. Why hurt youself?  And I agree with Christmas Shoes.  Its not right.  Christmas is a happy time of the year and the songs should be happy. You guys are too funny :-)

    I hate that song Electric Avenue!  I hated it when it first came out and they'd play that stupid video on MTV. 

    There's another song about being on MTV - I can't remember it, but i hate it!!!

    Love this thread, love music... but for the longest time I couldn't think of songs that irritate me.  Even songs that used to irritate me don't seem to bother me anymore.  Then I heard one one the way into the oncologist's office and I wanted to scream...

    Tom's Diner... Do do do do, do do do do,

    Why would Suzanne Vega "sing" such drivel?!  

    (edited to correct date to "early 60s, thought it was 50s!!)

    Plus those ones my mom loved from the early 60s, I'm sorry they just sound soooo pathetic

    What an awesome thread!  LOL! I have to admit I really like some of them, like Country Roads, Jack and Diane, Copacabana, and Hit the Road Jack... but I have to admit they might fall into the guilty pleasure category- fun to sing but you know they are in actuality quite stupid songs.

    others Brandi you're a fine girl- what a good wife you would be- song about this girl pining away after a sailor .

    Often songs I really can't stand are because of the singers voice- I know I might offend some Dylan fans out there- but I can't stand his voice! My dh and I have a joke where we sing non-Dylan songs in his Draaaawwwnnn Out nasal voice with his weird cadence. I actually like some of his songs as long as someone else sings them! ( like Indigo Girls doing Tangled up in Blue)

     Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun" and just about anything by Tom Petty are like nails on a chalkboard to me!

    There was one from the early 60's (I think I was about 10 when it came out) "Norman my love". Silly lyrics etc. BUT my sisters and I used to sing it ALL THE TIME. And why? My father's name is Norman.

    I absolutely HATE the song "Living Like You're Dying".  I always correct the song before I change the radio station in the car to say "Live like you are LIVING"!
