Yes! A column called, A Day in the Life of Mary
-
What do I want to be???? Let me think a little.... I think I would like to be a stripper but I think it is probably a little late for that, A day late and dollar short sorta speak. Yea, I could look good with enough duct tape but it would only look good from one side(the side without the duct tape). I can't dance well, I don't think I could jump on a pole and slide down and look sexy or even like I should be any where near it because my body doesn't do limber, it doesn't do normal for that fact. I can hardly hold onto a railing while walking up steps for that fact. I don't think I could be a cyclist or runner because spandex is definatly not my friend. I couldn't imagine in my worse nightmare my butt in spandex laying over a little bicycle seat. No that even grosses me out!!!! If I hit a bump the cheeks of my ass would probably fly up and smack me in the kidneys and that could leave a bruise. I can't go back to school cause I would never remember what I read or if I was to read it in the first place. I want to work somewhere that I can get a good discount on what I buy there. Sears power tools dept. maybe. Ahhh, I just don't know. What ever it is the people have to be well and know who they are. I just don't know....Goodnight ladieds, Mary
-
I am glad Mary hasn't lost her sense of humor when I was gone! It took an hour to catch up on all your posts.
You ladies were supposed to behave. Paula, hope you are feeling better and recovering from your sisters visit. Mary, what kind of bracelets do you make?
We had to put BO down before we left. He hadn't eaten for 10 days and could hardly walk. It is odd to come home and not have him here. He was 14 years old and we had him about 10 years.
We had a wonderful time on vacation. We traveled from Amsterdam, into Germany, Switzerland and ended up in a small town in Italy. Drank gallons of wine and ate tons of good food.
We walked alot, but not enough for all we ate and drank.
I can't wait to get the bracelet to forward on to others. What a great idea.
It is a heat wave here 85 in Ocotober.. not to worry, high of 56 tomorrow!
Renee -
Welcome back Renee, The trip sounds so great. Sorry about your dog????It was the dog???? They get to be like family and its hard to lose them. Ya know I went to Springfield today with my hubby and completely forgot I had to go to the Dr. with my dad. I remembered Sunday but it got lost today in my creepy mind. Anyway, I don't know if it's me or if my hubby drives like ahh ahh he is nuts. He tries to irriatate me but this goes beyond that. When I yell at him he acts like "whats wrong with you?" today he is going over the speed limit and sees a cop going the other way on a 4 lane and the cop puts his blinker on and my hubby turns off. He thought the cop was after him, so if he had been, and he wasn't, we would of gotten not just a speeding ticket but hauled in for eluding a police officer too. Oops gotta go. Hope everyone is getting good clean reports. Later Mary
-
Hi Renee! Welcome home! That is beautiful country. I was over there many years ago. Stayed in Inns Brook, Austria but traveled to many places. The countries over there are so small, it doesn't take long to go from one to another.
GA is still hot. That's why they call it Hotlanta. It is not sweltering like it was though.
Mary, Did your Dad ever get the Dr.? -
Hi Girls, Janie my dad did get there by himself. We meet there usually because he lives in a little town 18 mins. away. I told him it was his fault for not calling and reminding me the night before. Pretty bad my 76 year old dad has to remind me. I called my onkie today and asked if my M.R.I. was back yet. I have to wait until Thurs. for my apt. Now when I am talking in my own head I say things I wouldn't out loud so I said to myself "screw you" and I proceeded to call my reg. Drs. nurse who said I will make some calls. She called 2 hours later and said theres some arth. but everything looks good. Now since I didn't do the dye that could mean the cancer is in there and could not. Theres something showing in my neck and darn if I could remember after I hung up. It was a hemogram or arthragram or some crap. So I looked those up and shoot I will wait until Thursday. The nurse said the marg. was normal for it what ever it was so could just be blood in the bone spaces she had no idea either. I guess we don't retain much ortho when going through school even though they put you there forever.. I don't freeking know. I am not doing anymore scans for a while. Hope everyone else gets good reports. I will have the brac. in the morning mail so Renee should get it by Sat. Later little gators, Mary
-
Oh, I talked to Penny today and said I was going to file unemployment until I find something. She got a little bent outta shape and thought her dad would have to pay it. UHHH no.....since he is no longer employing anyone he does not have to pay anything and I get the money I have paid in or some of the 10 years worth anyway. What a bitch. I never use that word but it feels pretty good, maybe I should have used it more often. She works 7 months a year and draws unemployment 5 months so what the hey???? Its a seasonal co. so they set it up that way. She tells everyone she doesn't draw it because she has so much money but she draws it....I would like to draw her....with a noose around her neck! Huggies, Mary
-
Mary, that's great news about the scan! Whew! Now, if they can just get you something for the pain. Hey, speaking of pain, I'm glad you're causing Penny some.
Janie, Renee, hope things are well. I'm just waiting for an alleged cold front to come in tomorrow. That will really make things nice.... Work's been fine. I've been slipping out around 5 p.m. (get there about 8:30 usually) pleading fatigue. -
Well Mary, at least so far so good. Maybe the onkie can give you an opinion about the probabilities.
My onk's office called and moved my appointment to an hour or two later tomorrow. Now I'm totally confused as to when it was and when it is. Good thing I wrote it down. My son is going with me so he will remember. Maybe he'll remember what is said too. I worked the early shift at the high school this week -- and it is a long drive so I am getting sleeeppyyy without a hypnotist. I am going to put in a few hours at my elementary school before going to the onc. I try to save as many sick leave hours as possible.
Good night ladies,
Janie -
Good news ladies! It's arthritis in about six new places! A little over a year ago my first bone scan showed arthritis in one shoulder and one foot. Now it is in both shoulders, both knees, the hip, the ankles, the foot, and the jaw. I think that's it. Isn't that wonderful! Never been so glad to have arthritis. I bet chemo had a lot to do with it's quick progression. But that's all right. Well, I also had treatment today so I am turning in early to finish sleeping off the meds.
Janie -
Congrats on the arthritis! Not good news, but GREAT news!
Mary, when do you hear on your MRI?
Went bra shopping again. Pretty soon I'm going to find a cheap answer to my lopsided problem. Until then, I just keep making returns....
Mom comes tomorrow. YOu guys take care. I'll check in with you.
Paula -
Janie, Glad to hear you are ate up with arth. and not cancer. P.J. you enjoy the visit with your mom. I envy you. I had notta, nothing, not a damn thing show up to account for my pain. My onkie said since my blood is showing my bones are irritated he believes it to be Fibromyalgia. I am going to a Neurologist guy in a couple wks. Well I am glad all looks good for us. I sat by a new gal today. She has lung cancer. She had B.C. back in 1964.....She had uterus cancer 5 years later and here she is a 3rd. time. Wow!!!!41 years. There is hope. Gotta get my benadryl sleep. I am freezing from the treatment. burrr, of course the temp is like 25 dergrees lower today than yesterday. My daughter and boys are eating here so gotta sleep it off. Nitie nite, Mary
-
Mary, glad to hear you got the all-clear, too. We're gonna get through this. Have a good sleep....
-
Yes, PJ. We are ALL going to get through this, strong and sassy.
I still have no idea what's causing my back and rib pain, which is what hurts the most. Go figure.
A friend left a message on my machine last night saying she has never been so happy to hear that someone has arthritis.
Mary, did you cook after your treatment? I am always too wiped out for that. Mark went with me to the Oncologist who walked in a said, "I knew you would bring someone with you today, but I have good news." Anyway, after treatment, we came back to my place and watched the Braves (I slept through a lot of it) and then went out for a quick bite. I wrote a few short email notes and went straight to bed.
It is raining and a bit brisk here! SO I bet you (Renee) and you (Mary) are freezing.
Later ladies,
Janie -
Hi Girls, well wait until yous have to put the charm in the bracelet, yous will kill me. It took me Ohhh, about 20 mins. to figure out how then shoot, about an hour to hold it and stretch it to get it on and it would pop back when I would try to get it hooked. There has to be an easy way, I just can't figure it out. Renee should have it tomorrow. Well Janie I would love to say I cooked a meal but I must confess, I loaded up the crock pot. I did make cheese potatoes but I had them boiled and ready to go in the oven. I got up about 4:00 and drug my sleepy one eye opened butt down the steps and got busy. My daughter does not cook. Yea, I think they mixed that one up at the hospital but I am attached so I won't exchanged her now. Well, I do enjoy cooking and it's not like I don't have time now.....Well, gotta go the benadry is still working a little. Darn right we are going to make it.Hugs, Mary
-
Mary,
Time to come out of hibernation! Up and at 'em.
PJ, Hope you are enjoying your weekend with family.
Renee, Did the bracelet arrive yet? What an awesome idea.
What is the fuel like in your all's neck of the woods. Now, the school system has canceled all field trips, band trips and some athletic trips.
Later Gators,
Janie -
Good Morning Girls, Janie the gas here is $2.99 a gal. It is always higher in Il. and the Gov. said something about that but I don't know if he did anything about it.We had to kick the furnace on a little lastnight. Its not too bad this morn. I think it is going to warm up in the low 70's next wk. I am really enjoying my time off not working. Ya know, I don't know how I found time to work before. I seem to be running errands most the time and baking and getting things done around my house. Some how it doesn't feel right to be free all day. I got my yearly S.S. paper that tells how much you have paid in each year etc. and I have only not worked 4 years since 1972. No wonder I feel guilty. I want retail when I look again and maybe just part time. No more medical...well maybe when I go to Az. I will work for my son-in-law. But I won't work hospital just office. My husband just said its 33 degrees with wind chill. Well better go get doped up. I have a headache but don't know if its treatment or weather, I have had it 2 days now. I need another cup of joe too. Hugs, Mary
-
I'm at JAX. My appointments start early tomorrow. People are swimming in the ocean! Have a great week ladies.
Hugs
Janie -
I got the bracelet this weekend. Mary, did you get it at Penney's or is that just the box you used. I'll go there first to look for a new charm to add so I dont' have to run all over looking for them.
Gas in WI is always high. It did come down a little finally! When we travel we fill up the tank before we get back to WI- we have tons of tax on gas and everything else here.
We went from 85 to 55 overnight last week.. I had to turn on the furnace to take the chill out because I left a few too many windows open-ugh. Now it is going to be back to normal about 65 so that's not bad.
Hope Paula's visit with her mom is going well.
Janie- swimming in the ocean- I wish! sounds inviting.
Renee -
Renee, Yes, I got it at J.C.P. and they had a lot of charms but not a birthstone for Dec. so I got an M. Hope everyone had a good wk. end. I have been cooking and baking, things I haven't had time to do for so long, it may be I am bored too. Later, Stay warm Renee. J.P., have a good time with your Mom and Hi to Janie. Mary
-
Hi ladies. I posted this morning, but it got stuck when I pushed the submit button. I waited a good while and finally shut it down because I was traveling and had to get on the road. I am back home.
Renee, I saw others in the ocean, but I didn't take the plunge -- especially with all the shark attacks lately.
Pj - Enjoy your company
Mary - I think it would take me a long time to get bored away from work. If I were not a late bloomer, I would have already retired.
Be good.
Janie -
Hi Girls, well I got the boarder hung in my bedroom. I have had it for about a year now but I wanted to wait a year to make sure I liked it. Yea right, I think thats called lazy or just too busy. It's up now and looks pretty good. We are downsizing so we can work part time eventually. We just can't find a smaller place thats nice and not a small fortune. Everything we have looked at needs a lot of work. I am too old and Lord my husband doesn't need anything to do with that at all.....He keeps saying "I can fix that up" who the heck is he kidding? I may have chemo brain but I am not brain dead....I really hope this our last winter up here. Well I gotta get a shower and tomorrow I will roll the idea of vacuming over in my head and if I get really daring....I might dust too. Hugs, Mary
-
Herceptin number 46 this afternoon! Five more after this.
Did I tell you I think I broke my pinkie toe and maybe more stubbing my foot on a chair the day after my bone scan. I have always heard that they can't do anything about broken toes so I haven't gone to see about it, but it continues to be a real nuisance.
Mary, I have a long list of "must do's" while I'm off and it doesn't seem to be shrinking. Of course I have spent many hours on the road to and from Mayo. Tonight will be a bust after treatment -- do not get much done after that.
I asked some candid questions at Mayo and got candid answers. It is too soon to know what is likely to happen long-term, but short-term I am doing amazingly well -- appear to be NED. I found a thread on HER2support.org last night where there were many pages of women who have been NED for a while. Mary, you may want to take a look. It is encouraging. Some of them starting taking Herceptin in 1999 or 00 or 01 and are still NED.
Hope all are well.
Janie -
Well, my mom's the one doing all the work down here. She's scraping woodwork and painting and such. Me? I'm just looking for ways to be sure she won't ask me to help.
Mary, hope you figure out how to get to part-time work only. That'd be ideal, huh?
And Janie, congrats on being so close to the end. Notice that you two HER+ girls are NOT the ones going in for a recurrence... So you should both be confident....
Well, talked to the onc's nurse. I'm doing Taxotere every 3 weeks and then will start the Xeloda perhaps next week. (It's on some kind of 3-week schedule, too, but I'm not sure what exactly) Anyway, I called to ask her if I had to have steroids the day before and after, since I did with Taxol. She says they're getting away from that. They'll just give me some in the IV. Also, she says at least for now, I might not have to have neupogen or neulasta. So, that'd be cool, too. -
Wow! All these energetic ladies! Doing borders, Scraping paint.
I have been trying to catch up on the phone calls that I do not have time to make at work. Was on hold forever with the insurance company. Was talking to a supervisor who had put me on hold to speak to a nurse, then I got cut off. Called back and got her voice mail. I will never get all my calls in at this rate. I still have several more to make, but if I start talking to one of the others, the insurance lady will bong in for sure. I need every other week off to conduct my business.
Yes PJ. I am finding that Mary and I are strange birds (you already knew that). There is only one other lady I have found who is ER/PR -, HER2+++. She is new on the Stage III forum. In some strange way, it appears now that Herceptin is getting such good results, if we can hold on to our nonrecurring status, it looks like in some strange way, the ER/PR - negative status might be a good thing although it limits our treatment options.
Guess what! The supervisor from the insurance just called back and they have finally resolved my PET scan charge!
Now I need to go make other calls.
Later,
Janie -
PJ,
Did you start chemo today? -
I need a complete overhaul.
I stubbed my toe on a chair last week and it never did stop hurting so I went to the foot doc today -- he said "You really did a good job on it. You broke it lengthwise, diagonally." He set it and put me in a huge boot for 5 to 6 weeks. Now I have a sleeve on my right arm, a swollen right foot, and an orthopedic boot on my left foot and leg. I am so cute. Not to mention the new bridge in my mouth, compliments of the dentist this morning. All I'm doing during my time off (inter-session) is going to appointments.
Hope you all are doing well.
Hugs,
Janie -
Well, Taxotere No. 1 is down. Start the Xeloda tonight, too. First part went fine. No allergic reax this time like the first Taxol. Had a hassle buying the Xeloda. Had to pay up front for it. But tomorrow I'll get them to fax the mail order prescrip to ins. co. and it'll cost MUCH less. (4 days worth was 353 bucks)
Now, waiting to see what the side effects will be....
We're going out to dinner tonight, probably Olive Garden so Nathan'll have something he likes to eat. I imagine the crappy taste stuff will kick in in a day or two. Blech.
Onc says he thinks the PET scan stuff probably really was metastic disease and I'll be on Xeloda indefinitely. Whooppee... -
Paula,
I know you are probably relieved to have that lst one down. There is always some anxiety about the lst time. Insurance companies, can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.
I love Olive Garden. There is one here, but I haven't been there yet.
Will they ever know for sure about the PET scan stuff? DId they tell how they will decide about continuing the Xeloda? I guess they will do another PET scan and if it is less, that means the Tax hit it and it was mets. At least that is the way they did the nodules in my lungs. Fortunately for me, there was no change so they think it isn't.
I hope you don't get too many side effects this time around. Come here and vent if you do.
Hugs,
Janie -
Well, the PET could have been from surgery, could be mets, could have been from infection (I had kind of a sinus/lung gross infectiony thing going on for months. they gave me antibiotics which i finished after the last PET scan and it cleared up about two days after the scan. so, really, i'm banking on it NOT being mets, but he says it's most likely it is) We'll never actually know. No way to biopsy it as it doesn't show up on CT (which he says is good, relatively. that if it IS mets, it's not much of them)
There was a 25-year-old woman there getting not only chemo, but blood transfusion, so I really felt fairly lucky today. Another woma about my age who's been there and been on every bc chemo there is. She gave me a crash course in what Xeloda can do (not great things).
Anyway, for now I feel fine and hope it stays that way. How are you and Mary doing with the Herceptin after-effects?
Renee, I'll be up your way in a few months...
