down to single digits in both checking and savings :(
It took a year to battle this cancer and now I feel like it has won - my family is dead broke. I don't even know what to do.
We've been given a great 2nd chance recently as we were approved for a permanent loan modification however we have so many other bills, I'm having a hard time finding work and I fear that we won't be able to make our new payments
This SUCKS!

Nikki~ I hope things get better soon. Are you still doing daycare ???

Hi Nikki,
Sorry to hear of what you're now enduring due to breast cancer.
Don't know the particulars of your situation (so what I suggest may now apply to you) but Maryland does offer TANF (temporary assistance for needy families) if you do meet the qualifications. You could be eligible for food stamps, a cash allowance per month (a paltry amount) and Medicaid. It surely isn't much, but it's better than nothing.
http://www.nccp.org/profiles/MD_profile_36.html
You can also try to reach out to your local Komen branch to ask if they'll provide temporary assistance; or if they cannot, they may be able to direct you to a place that could.
Please talk to your Oncology Social Worker as sometimes s/he is aware of grants and other monies that aren't published.
I found this site too:

Best of luck to you and your family. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am still doing daycare but lost a child who is going into FT kindergarten in another school district so I am down to just one child - and an infant starting in November. I really need to get my hands on one or two more children in here to make ends meet
-
I can really relate
Keep trying
My thoughts & prayers are with you.

Nikki~ I hope things are going better. Another resource to check out is to see if the ACS or your local hosptial (where you went to for Chemo.) has any resources. Here in Baltimore we have someone at the University of Maryland that helps out families with such things as bills and needs.

nikki, christene and others... Here's a list another BCO member put together of programs and organizations that might be able to help you, especially if you're still in treatment:
In addition, here are a couple of organizations that are not on that list, but that have been suggested recently in other threads started by women in similar situations:
http://www.breastfriendsforever.org/site/
Many times, the financial burden a bc dx & tx causes isn't fully realized or felt until after treatment ends, and, unfortunately, a lot of these organizations limit their assistance to paying for medical expenses, and sometimes those are only within a specific state. But hopefully there might be something here to help each of you. Deanna
