Hi there,
I had a total hysterectomy(ovaries, uterus, cervix) 5 yrs ago. I am now 55. I had ovarian cysts and fibroids...
it was quite a relief to me given the fact that they did not know if my cysts were malignant, etc and having the heavy bleeding and irregular periods, etc. The Dr put me on HRT immediately after surgery, but after a week, I broke out from the patch; then, she put me on BCP's; but I decided not to take them b/c of family history of BC and family history of heart issues...the only symptoms I had were some insomnia and minor vaginal dryness...I chose not to use anything and I feel fine. I just deal with it the best I can. I had one short episode of "grieving" a few months after surgery, but got past that very quickly. So, all in all, it was not a bad experience for me. I had the laproscopic done also and no outside stitches, etc.-just glued my belly button! Felt tired for a few months, as with any surgery, but I feel fine now and would do it all over if I had to...best of luck, I hope that helps!

I had a total hysterectomy 22 yrs ago when I was 41. I woke up the next day while still in the hospital with the bed sheets soaked from an amazing night sweat-I had no idea what had happened-no one had mentioned to me that it could be like that. Thankfully, it never happened again like that ever. I went thru perhaps 6mo of hot flashes-particularly during moments of tension/stress. Sleeping on a silk pillow case that stayed cool @ night & using a ceiling fan helped. I also did not remain on HRT for fear of other issues. I may be just an individual case but I feel as though my menopause was not as bad nor lasted as long as friends who I later watched go thru it the natural way. I have not regretted the decision to remove my cystic ovaries as long as they were removing the cervical cancer-I hope you have as easy a time as I did.
