I had an Oncotype result of 14 = Low risk but it is only one piece of the puzzle, as to best course of treatment.

At a Med Onco consult last week at Yale, the doc said he was surprised an Oncotype  had been ordered, due to the size of my ILC, that it's a Grade 3 and Pleomorphic. He relayed the test was developed from clinical trials beginning 20 years ago, with participants with Stage I and II with masses of around 1-2 cm.

Thus, he wasn't comfortable with no chemo and thought the low risk score should not be relied on in my case. I had already thought the same after I read up on the clinical trials, so am going to have chemo but don't know with who yet.

Have an appointment this week, on the 25th, for another Med Onco consult at Memorial Sloan Kettering. It will be interesting to hear what she has to say.

Hang in there and keep positive thoughts!

shirley1953-My understanding is that you would benefit from chemo, but the DCIS may make a difference. I had similar numbers (oncotype 33 and and 1.8 cm IDC) and decided to do chemo. It's not a walk in the park, but it is doable. Your doctor should be able to help you make the decision and show you the benefits. For me the numbers made the decsion easy.
