Bump on mastectomy incision

Hi ladies,

I had a double mast in Nov. 08. I just had my implant exchange on June 5th of this year. After my exchange I noticed a small bump that came up on my incision. It is on the outside I think and kind of looks like a wart. It's white and very hard. Could this be scar tissue? I didn't think much about it at first because I assumed it was something to do with the surgery, but now it is starting to concern me. I am scheduled to see my ps in 1 week, but wondering if I should call and bump it up. Has anyone ever has something like this come up?

    Susie,

     I did'nt have a mast but many of my friends did, this could well be nothing but I'd definatly have it checked out for peace of mind.

    My onc said that if you were to get a recurrence it would feel like a pimple. And my rads doctor said that cancer likes to go to the blood supply that is why I had 6 extra rads on my mx scar. I would get it checked out by your onc.

    Hi Susan

    Just saw your post and I also have 2 tiny bumps in my mastectomy scar. After examination from a dermotologist, I was told it was keratosis, caused by radiation. Not sure if you had rads or not. Radiation can cause some strange skin changes.

    I had a recurrence on the scar.  It was a hard bump that felt like a small marble or scar tissue.  My plastic surgeon said it was nothing so I didn't pay much attention to it.  Thank heavens I visited my breast surgeon a few months later, who promptly removed it.

    I'm sorry if this is scaring you, but please, please have it checked out by your surgeon or oncologist.  It is not something to ignore.  It is better to be scared and have it turn out to be nothing, than to ignore a recurrence.

    Thank you all for your responses. I did have it checked out both by my Onc and my PS. They both said it is a stitch that has not yet dissolved. I actually had one on the other breast I did not notice, but my Onc found it and said it was also a stitch and would eventaully go away. I am happy to say one has. Whew! I guess every little thing will scare us to death from now on huh?
