    Hi Talk926.

Welcome! I don't think any of use June girls had that type of reconstruction. At least it is not listed on the top of the thread. You might want to check out some of the other months surgery threads.

Or, start a new topic under the surgery category with your questions. Hope this helps!

    Hello ladies

I have been back to work full time for the past three weeks and had to cut back my hours this week.  It was way too much for me.  I go in at 8:30 and finish at 5:30 or --so I have reduced two days a week to 10-4 and the other days 8:30-4.   I will keep this schedule for the next 3 weeks.

Talk926  you've been through so much and I know how you feel about making phone calls to the doctor. I hesitate, too, but it's a relief to get the questions answered.   I hope you will find another person whose farther along in the process who can assure you and help you.  You may want to start a thread on the TRAM flap.  I don't think I've seen one on this procedure (after the fact).

ok- I have a question for you ladies.  When you over do it what type of pain/discomfort do you have?  I have been over doing it in general but yesterday I lifted probably about 50 pounds a couple of times and today my whole breast area aches and I have burning in the muscle.  This happened after I tried to pull weeds last Sunday too.  The ache I get, but the burning?  Does anyone else get this?  I am feeling paranoid at the moment and wondering if my body is rejecting the alloderm or something.  But since it's been 6 weeks thats a dumb thought.... I need to slow down, I just don't know how thats possible.

Thanks for your replies in advance- I need some peace of mind!

Laurie08 I have the same thing :(  It's worse when I overdo.  A friend came over at almost my 4th  week out of surgery.  I had 2 fills by then and generally uncomfortable.  Friend was out front.  Her 4 year old went out back after I told her NOT TOO !!.. The dog chased her and she jumped into the deep end of the pool.  She can't swim.  I don't remember getting from the back door to the water.  I just remember pulling her out.  All I saw was two little blue eyes under the water.  I had nightmares for a week. Thank GOD I saw her and got to her.  However I was so sore and miserable for days  I had sharp pains on my left side for two days. .I feel mostly a burning towards my upper chest and chest bone constantly. The BS and PS tell me I am doing great.  No problems. All this is normal.  Sheesh !!  So I think you are ok too :)   Hope this helps.

    HUGS :)

Thanks Ducki- it makes me fell better that you can relate to the burning pain.  Mine is in the upper part as well and radiates towards the center. I am sorry that you have it too, but so thankful for your input.  Scary story about your friends daughter!  We have a pool and I can relate to how careful you have to be and always on your toes.  I am so thankful my son listens and won't go near the pool with out his life vest and me.  We also have an alarm on it so that if 15 pounds or heavier falls in a VERY loud alarm goes off.  Now if only my husband would remember to turn it off before he goes swimming! lol!!!

If I overdo it I get burning, also--in both breasts and only my right breast is reconstructed with alloderm.  So I think it is the stretching of the muscle that you are feeling.  I don't think it's anything to worry about--but the story you tell is harrowing!  I think saving your friend's daughter must have got  your adrenalin going and  you probably used even more force than needed to get the child out of the pool!  Thank God you saw the whole thing and you were right there.

I am stretching my breasts daily now according to PS instructions.  This basically involves pushing the implant/breast N-S-E-W for 30 seconds each direction.  She said to put as much pressure as I can stand.  Sometimes my muscles burn after this.  It's supposed to help them settle down and make nice cleavage.

Laurie, I too get the burning. I think it is related to the muscle also like the other ladies said.  Sometimes it is in one area and sometimes it radiates. I asked the PS and they said no worries.

Laurie, I too have this "burning" feeling sometimes when I overdo stuff. Nurse said is completely normal and that I shouldn't stop doing my regular life and that continuing the exercises they recommend will help to relieve this sensation.  This "burning" feeling can continue to show during  the next 6 months or 1 year post surgery (?)Undecided

Also about two weeks ago I noticed a bruise appearing around the surgery scar. In the beginning it really freaked me out, come on! a bruise appearing after more than one month of the surgery! But after calling my surgeon and got checked by the nurses, they told me is completely normal. That the bruise is actually an old one that was under the skin and now its showing again... perhaps because of the changes in my body (pregnancy hormones and also the fact I'm starting to show more) So now somedays I have a bruise around the scar some others not.....

    Oh well.

Hope everyone is having a nice relaxing weekend Laughing and that scars, treatments and recovery keep going well and healing. Sending lots of good vibes your way!

Jjoy & baby 5 months! Cool

ladies thank you so much for your posts about the burning.  You helped me so much.  Both my husband and my SIL wanted me to go to the Dr.  I told them the June girls and I talked about it and they have it too and they both backed off and didn't push me.  (They can be good at feeding paranoia:)  Now if only I would stop lifting.  The burning was just about gone and today my youngest fell asleep in his car seat and I didn't have the heart to wake him so I carried him in his car seat.  Now the burning is back again.  Stupid.

fill # 3 today. Honestly, I am almost back to the size that I was pre-surgery. In fact, I tried on one of my bras - and it fit! I don't think I will be going up to the full 400 cc's or more that the te's hold.

Laurie - stop lifting - that is an order!

While I was in the building for the fill, I also had an appt with a ob/gyn to go over my surgical menopause issues. More forms to fill out, but it made sense to do both appts today. Very nice Dr who took time to answer all my questions. Of course the nurse who lead me into the room asked me to change into the wonderful gown - to which I said no, I am not here for an exam. I guess they don't bother to read the paperwork that they make people fill out. Luckily the dr had no problem with that, makes no sense as I had the complete checkup in May as part of the gyn oncologist appt in preparation for the ooph. Anyway, she gave me a another option to try for my hot flashes - not effexor - so I plan on trying that.

    Where is everyone???

Hi everyone! I'm back from vacation. It was glorious!!!! I wish I could go back tomorrow!

I had my mammogram yesterday on my left breast. It was scary doing that again for sure. How is it possible that six months have gone by since my previous mammogram led to my dx? I guess time flies even when you're not having fun. Thankfully, the mammogram was all clear.

Now it's time to begin preparing physically and mentally for my exchange surgery next Wednesday.

Did I say that I wish I was still on my cruise?

It was wonderful to come back and see that Joystars had posted and is doing well. I'm glad the baby is growing and thriving.

Thank you for the advice ladies. Since I am new to this I just went to the area that said June 2010. As I am reading Laurie's question, I get the same thing, and I had the TRAM Flap procedure.I was not sure if that was normal, but reading the responses, I am seeing that yes when I overdue like pulling weeds out and even going shopping with my girls, that I get the same tightness & soreness & burning sensation in my torso area.. I was freaking out to see if that was normal.. You guys rock...

welcome bacy Getty!  So glad to hear you had a wonderful trip, you deserve it.  Also thrilled to hear you had a clean mammogram.  You must have been nervous.

Stcardsfan- congrats on you third fill. It must feel good to be almost back to your pre surgery size. I have only had one to date, but if you remember it was a big one.  I go again on the 26th and I am only going to have him do 50 cc's and see how it goes from there.  I think it is the look of the TE's I don't like.  My breasts don't look round- they are sort of flat up top and don't look right if I wear a shirt that is fitting across the chest.  I went clothes shopping today and actually was kind of bummed out by it.  I am assuming the implants will fax my issues.  But I am waiting until the first of the year to switch things out so I can do the nipples at the same time and not have to wear cones for the holidays.  January feels like a long time from now.

Hope everyone had a good day!

I was very nervous, Laurie. It was such a relief when the tech came out and said the radiologist had given me the all clear!

Do you know off the top of your head how long one has to wear the cone over the nipple reconstruction?

my PS said it will be sewn to me for 2-3 weeks than he wants me to wear it for 8 weeks total.  Not sure if anyone else's PS makes them do the same.  Mine seems to be ultra careful or something.  (Like how I couldn't shower until the drains were out for 48 hours.)

Ugh! 8 weeks ... I'll have to ask my PS what his process is when I see him after exchange. My PS seems to be the opposite of your PS. lol. Maybe his rules are a bit more lax.

Hi ladies! I have missed you all......last I checked no one had posted on her for days! :( I have gone to some other threads but they just don't baby me like you guys do...lol! I'll have to move to a radiation thread once that starts which will be late August or early September. Ugh!

Tissue expanders: I got I think my 5th fill today - going for a D cup (was DD). He put a lot in there because we aretrying to get done before the rads start. I am sore, BUT I now look like I have real boobs. They are more round after this fill, instead of round and flat. PS wants me to massage them to geth them even more round and emphasize the cleavage part. I'll get right on that!! ;)

I just really wish they would let me finish my tissue expanding before we start on the rads so I could get one thing done with.......geesh! these doctors really need to work more together instead of just focusing on their own specialty. Because guess what THE PATIENT is caught in the middle of it all.

Anybody else going to have rads that has TE's? Well hang in there all your ladies! Heal well and take care and Laurie quit lifting stuff!!

Getty - I am glad you had a good time on your cruise. We just made another payment on ours and the final payment is due mid-September, so that tells me that it's coming up soon. I can't wait!

Laurie - I know what you mean about the expanders sitting high on your chest. That's the way mine was for a while. It is dropping as time goes on, but I can still see a "bump" on my chest where it shouldn't be. I saw the GS yesterday and he said that it was looking good and that it should drop even more as time goes on. Regarding the cones, is this for the nipple replacement? I am not sure that I will have that. I am thinking that tattoos may be better as I don't want one of the nipples to always be "at attention", if you know what I mean.

The "burning" sensation is something I get as well if I do too much. My body tells me about it when that happens! A week before I went back to work, I planted seeds in my garden. Boy, did I pay for that for about a week! My green beans, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes and strawberries are doing fine, but what a price to pay for veggies and fruit! I try to be careful now as to how much I do around the house and the garden.

I finally got the disability issue taken care of. My PS office sent the information directly to a claims rep and he promptly went on vacation without taking care of it. Since I hadn't been paid in almost 4 weeks, the state had the PS office send the paperwork to another office and a check was cut and I received it on Monday. Thank goodness!

I am still not working a full 8 hour day. I feel like a big baby. My GS said not to push myself and that if I was tired after 5 to 6 hours, to go home. He suggested that next week, I increase the work day by an hour or so. Since I'm a salaried employee, I don't get docked pay if I leave early. He did give me 2 more weeks of PT after this week, so I leave early twice a week for that anyway. My boss is in another state and is 2 hours ahead of me and has told me to go when I get tired. If I followed that advice, I'd leave NOW - LOL.

I did talk to the GS about an insurance issue I was having. I have a PPO and my insurance denied a claim for an assistant surgeon who was in OR during the surgery. I had no idea that there would be an assistant there and the PPO denied the claim, saying there was no medical need for an assistant. The GS said that they use an assistant for every surgery. I told him that I had filed an appeal of their decision and that the insurance company would probably contact them for backup. He said that if the PPO didn't pay the bill, they would waive the fee. He told me to keep him posted. Come to think of it, neither the GS or the PS have billed me for anything yet.

Hi Renee! I think you're doing really well working 6 hour days! I'm also glad that you have an understanding boss that tells you to go home if you're tired. Don't feel bad leaving. It will serve you and your company well in the long run.

Insurance companies definitely live in their own world with their own very strange rules and regulations. Mine has been great paying everything with no question. Until yesterday, when they sent a letter that they wouldn't authorize my exchange surgery because they didn't think it was medically necessary. WHAT?!?!?! Anyway, long story short, by the time I called the PS' office, they had already taken care of it. Phew!

I had an echo last week (I'm on Herceptin, so I have the echo every 3 mos.)  Today, I got all geared up to have Herceptin #10, I get to the hospital, wait half an hour, get into the lounge, am all ready to get hooked up, and THEN they tell me they can't give it to me - said the echo showed I'm "borderline"(?)  I have to go back for another echo, and then I'm rescheduled for H in another 3 wks.

I just want to know how much more in parking fees they want to grab - do ya think someone could have called me BEFORE I spent almost 2 hours. driving there and back FOR NOTHING??????

Renee  I went to work one month after my one step mx/reconstruction and 6 weeks after hysterectomy.  At first it was okay, but the fatigue hit in the second week and I had to cut back.  Like you, my boss was so helpful and they immediately cut my hours back.  I am hoping to start adding time the first week of September.

It's hot here in Phoenix so I think that adds to the fatigue, even though I'm not really going outside.  Somehow I sleep really well when the air is cool at night.  I am also trying to slowly add exercise to my weekly routine.  With work I have to pace the exercise part.  I miss going daily, but I am sure that will come in time.

I am going to a Holy Yoga retreat this weekend with a girlfriend.   I recently started attending Yoga classes and they have helped me relax and with stretching.  I don't do the intense Yoga, but am in the slow flow classes.  I am looking forward to being away from it all.  Hope it recharges me a bit!!

Marm  That is frustrating....what is the "echo" test and why do you need it for Herceptin?  I hope your next experience is better.

    good luck Ducki!

Marm- I am so sorry you had to deal with that- I hope the test goes well, keep us posted.

So I am gearing up for a big party we are having this weekend to celebrate my husband having turned 40 back in July and me being healthy.  We are expecting about 60 people.  I must be nuts!  Although my husband has been doing most of the preparing so it hasn't been too bad.  But tomorrow I go into full cooking mode.  The whole thing should be alot of fun, crazy, but fun.

I am also going to the oncologist for the first time tomorrow.  I am assuming it is to talk about Tamoxifen.  I am hoping I get no surprises and that I am in and out.  I told my husband nothing was going to happen and he should skip it so I am going alone.  I hope I am right.  With my diagnosis and having a BMX I can't imagine that they will suggest much.  So wait and see and until then think about other things.  Although I would like to get a good game plan in place for future screening.  Did everyone here have full body screenings aka- muga scan, pet/cat scans etc?   I have had nothing- not even blood work done....makes me wonder.

    A party! How fun!

Laurie: I haven't had any scans either, besides my mammo on Monday and a chest x-ray, I don't think they do any of the full body scans for those of us with an MX for pure DCIS, at least I haven't heard of anyone having anything like that. I'll get blood work done by my onc in December, though I don't know what tests she will run. My PCP just did all the regular stuff for my physical and I passed with flying colors. My Vitamin D levels are normal, but low in the normal range, so we're going to up my D3 supplement and re-test in 3 months. Let us know what your onc says about the Tamoxifen. I'm curious.

Ducki and Laurie: hope your oncology appointments went well! Let us know......

I completed my last class today!!! I have to go to my internship tomorrow for the last day, then I will have my Bachelors Degree (finally at 49!) in Social Work. It has taken me a long time and the past year has been very rough with the bc dx, but I made it!

Now to rest and relax, then figure out what to do next. :)
