Springie, where will you be going on vaca?? I just adore vacations, LOL!! Its hard to get your groove on again though with working out...after being on vacation.
Deanna, what's your calcium supplement? Another bco sister said her dr. recommended Blue Bonnet liquid cal mag citrate, lemon flavor, 16 oz from Whole Foods, take 1 Tab. twice a day. My calcium is almost out so I was going to try this brand next.
DH has a PT appt. scheduled for 9/1/10, exactly 4 weeks from surgery date, til then it is to remain in the sling they gave him that has a pillow attached. He's sick of all this already and can't drive for 6 weeks. You should see all the appts. lined up between him and me. My boss isn't too thrilled I bet!!
Diane, I do believe you are making me blush with your sweet comment! LOL I still am amazed at how much walking you and Deanna get in with that desert heat!! What's my excuse then? shoot, I'm a baby in hot weather...wah!!
I walked one mile yesterday before work and after! and my flexibility and some strength. Its something at least!!
-
I just lost everything I typed! ugh. I clicked Deanna's link before hitting submit! doy!
Vacation = Hilton Head island! Lots of walking and bike riding.
Youngest daughter moving to college this wkend! ahhh! Empty nesters!!!
Sore from exercise yesterday. Out of my normal routine!!!
BFN!!!! or as tigr would say TTFN.
-
Springtime enjoy Hilton Head!!! I'll be with you next year as an empty nester. It will be hard going from watching 3 sports a year to nothing. UGH! I guess I'll have to make more quilts and knit more sweaters.
-
Ha ha Deanna, you hit it, he loved an article that supported his behavior.
Diane, that is a lot of miles, good for you.
Have a good and active day everyone. I plan on getting out and enjoying the last of the good weather before it really cools down here. Last night's after work walk got cut short by mosquitos. I hate those things. I'll put up with hot weather, rain, neuropathy to get a walk in but I won't deal with mosquitos.
-
Spring, stopped at Hilton Head once when my parents flew to N.C. and we drove down to Disney World with stop offs along the way. Loved Hilton Head! I know you had such a fab time last time you went on vacation there. I remember you commenting on the kids texting while biking, haha!
We've been empty nesters for 2 years now. I miss my girls!! wah wah wah Last night my older DD and her pups were over for Turkey Taco Thursday, yummy! and then a long walk together, wonderful! DH stayed home as he went for his 1 hour walk early in the morning while I was at work. He's been napping so then he CAN'T sleep at night...Hard cause I have to go to work! UGH! wah wah wah for me...haha
kmmd, funny you mentioned mosquitos...we were all outside saying goodbye to DD and the pups were running crazy around the front yard - DH gets them all revved up, but then the mosquitos came out and landed on DH's shoulder, boy that broke up the fun fast! We all said 'see ya' and ran...ho hugs goodbye or anything. Just waved and did the I love You in sign language hand gesture.

Dripping sweat after this morning's 4 mile walk! Pretty puny (sp?) compared to Diane! As far as walking in the heat, Kari, something vivre posted a long time ago constantly echos in my mind -- that every step we take is a step away from breast cancer. So I'm determined to get those steps in, no matter what the weather.
As far as the calcium I like, it's Everyday Calcium by Rainbow Light. A gal at one of the larger natural foods markets here recommended it to me, and I've bought it 2x now. It has an equal amount of calcium & magnesium, plus 1,000 IUs of Vitamin D. I only take 1/day (not the 4 suggested), and my nails have never been stronger. I can't say with 100% certainty that's entirely due to this supplement, but it sure seems like it. I've also heard that liquid calciums are easier to absorb, but the ones in pure liquid form seem very expensive to me, and the liquid capsules I used for awhile weren't calcium citrate, which I believe is better absorbed, no matter what its form.
Have a great weekend everyone! Deanna

Thanks for the info Deanna!!

Harley ~ I was just prowling around the web, trying to find some aid for 3 BCO members who are having a particularly rough time right now, and one of the sites I came across made me think of you because one of the things they offer is scholarships! Here it is, if you haven't already seen it:
http://www.patientadvocate.org/
I also thought their patient advocate program looks interesting, and might even look into that myself. Deanna
-
Deanna that is not a puny walk. It is so flipping hot here that it is hard to walk. I did do an 8 this morning. I am soooo sore and tired. We did eat a great breakfast afterward. Off to my parents for Christmas in July, but now August. they have have, turkey... and Christmas songs. They then give us all the stuff they have colected from the "free" stuff from their favorite casino. The rule is it has to leave their house and never return. I aslked my DS last year if he told anyone about this event and he said no. He thinks we are just a little strange. Oh well. We probably are, but have a good time doing it.
Happy Saturday everyone.

We're having both a heat & humidity wave here today. Yuk! I actually took about 4 steps out the door this a.m., turned around and came back inside. But then "just ten minutes," popped into my head, and I managed to muster up enough determination to do 2 miles. But it's pretty miserable out there today. Deanna
-
We had a bit of a damp, chilly day here, though it got hot & humid down the hill in town. We did a quick 6 mile hike out to a lake in the mountains today. Still lots of wild flowers. The marmots were busy gathering whatever it is they gather on the tundra, and the wind was blowing--lots of gray clouds over head.
After last week's 10 miler, this was a breeze!
I admire those of you who are faithfully getting out in the heat to do your miles!!!!
Deanna, I tried a liquid calcuim blend once (by Life Force--I use their Body Balance liquid mineral supplement)--it was so chalky and gross! I wanted it for the absorption (I'm not convinced we absorb what we need to from those honkin' calcium tabs!) but I just couldn't tolerate it. I'm trying to get my daily calcium from diet. We'll see what last week's bone density shows...

Last night I did the weight training and 2 miles on the treadmill. My lymphedema (trunk) has been bothering me so hopefully this will do the trick. Trying to go to do the weights 3x this week!
This morning a little yoga before work. I came here to motivate myself to get on the dang cross-trainer! OK seeing these 4 6 8 10 mile walks has done the trick! I can do 30 minutes on the cross trainer.
This weekend we leave for Hilton Head, so next week I will be able to walk, bike and swim a lot more than with my "sit on yer butt all day" job. My husband is retired and walks about 4 miles a day with 2 15 pound black weights (!!!) while I sit at the computer. He comes home soaked in sweat!! I know how you feel Kari!
You know, it just occurred to me that all you ladies doing these mega walks like 4-10 miles, image how much fun you could have now at a Theme Park!!! You would be tearing all over the place and no stopping you! ha! (The way my mind works, I swear!).
-
Spring I hope you enjoy Hilton Head next week. I am up (yes it is 6 am) and am planning to walk this morning. It is sooo flippin humid out there. I just wish it would rain and get it over with. I am so not a humidity girl, obviously since I live in Las Vegas.
I start back to work next week. This summer has flown by. My DS leaves tomorrow for his last semester away. The only positive about this is the towel situation. He leaves towels all over the place. Maybe my water bill will go down.
As I am typing I am listening to a you tube video. It is by Lady Antebellum, I Was Here. What a great Motivational song. Check it out and let me know what you think.
Happy Wednesday everyone.
-
Bev, even with hiking 6-10 miles, a theme park would wear me out!! Too much starting and stopping and mental stress from the noise and crowds! Give me my quiet mountains with uphills and downhills!!
Have a blast at HH. Do the fun active stuff, then sit on your butt in the shade a little and relax with a good book!
Off to spin class, then PowerPlates, then the chiro, and then to hold my trainer's hand while she goes for a breast U/S.

Disgustingly hot & humid here, too, Diane -- like a steamroom. I walked about 3.5 miles, then figured I was so dripping wet anyway, I washed my car. The bending and stretching actually felt good. Off to the pool as my reward for all that work... Deanna
-
Spring, you crack me up!! Enjoy your trip this weekend!! I love theme parks-I'm like a bobble head, always needing to be part of the action, haha!!
Diane, I listened to part of that song, I had to keep searching as You Tube is blocked at work - it sounds very inspirational and beautiful!! I love songs like that. I'm not a big fan of Miley Cyrus, but her song "Its the Climb" brought tears and smiles to me as I finished treatment. I love music. You will get used to 'the no towels all over the place' sooner than you realize. I remember mountains of laundry when both DD's lived at home - UGH!! Those girls would change their clothes 6 times a day and put everything in the dirty clothes pile.
Anne, Spin class and power pilates? geez, you exhaust me, haha. I'm hoping your friend's U/S comes back OK and glad she has you to hold her hand.
You girls in the humidity, hang in there!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been really struggling lately to work my workouts into my day and to eat good at night! Been keeping up with the walks. That frozen yogurt is awfully tasty!!
DH got his stitches out this morning, he drove himself. He isn't supposed to drive for 6 wks, but he couldn't stand it anymore- said he was really careful. The assistant that took the stitches out said DH's surgeon is top notch and used to the L.A. Lakers work.

Sorry I haven't been on bco for awhile. I've been getting my Pizza N Putt fundraiser event together, and it is almost here. FRIDAY is the BIG DAY!!!
My sister in law is in town visiting, and we have been going to the beach every day. I am exhausted!
I haven't been getting enough exercise, but I did go for a run this morning.
Deanna, thanks for the info., and the website. I'll check it out later.
Looks like I am finally quitting that p/t job at the produce market. I may be working for a networking group that helped me with my fundraiser. I have been meeting people there, and some of the contacts have donated prizes for the putt putt tournament.
I am SO TIRED!
see you all later....
Harley

Harley keep us informed about your successful fundraiser! When it is over, take some time off to reflect and rest.

OKAY!! So last night I DID do 40 minutes on the eliptical while reading a book (so I didn't go too fast) but I sweat and felt good that I got on the dang thing when I felt pooped out.
Today I jumped out of my desk chair at 4:45 and booked to the gym before the crowd. Got in all my weight training machines and then walked for 30 minutes (about 1.8 miles - I KNOW NOT AS MUCH AS YOU HARD CORE WOMEN!!!!)
But again, feel good that I did it for God Sakes!!!
Anne, WOW for the Spin and Power Pilates!!! , and Deanna, what a good plan! walking, car washing and pool as a reward. Ahhh. GOOD GOOD GOOD!!
Kari, glad to hear DH is up and about!!
Harley - here is wishing you ENERGY, girl!!
Diane, I had to crack up about the towels. I am on just day 4 of my youngest leaving the "nest" and I am still getting used to it. One thing is for sure, it is a lot less messy!! And it is now clear what mess has been my DH's all this time! HMMM!!!!! ha!!!
-
Hey, it must be my lucky day! I just returned from a grueling (due to the heat & humidity) walk, and my pedometer is at exactly 7777!
Spring, have a fabulous week at HH! Hope the weather's perfect for you!
Harley, GOOD LUCK today! Whatever your goal is, I'll bet you're going to blow past it with all the work you've put in! And great news on the potential new job! Very exciting!
Have a great weekend, everyone! Deanna
-
Got home after work yesterday and informed DH that I was going to get back to my workout regimen! ha So I did 40 min of strength, then after dinner we went for a 20 minute walk, that's all I could do ladies, my muscles were pooped from the strength workout!!
So to everyone else...What Spring said!
Deanna, you better buy a lottery ticket PRONTO!!
-
Just wanted to share an inspirational photo from another new thread. Hope this brings up the thread. http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/64/topic/756962?page=1#idx_12
112 here yesterday and similar heat predicted today. (Actually 116 on my car thermometer when I had to go out around 4:00.!) Went to the club in the evening and did 30 mins. on a bike, which I'm glad I did because without the slightest breeze, I'm passing on walking this a.m.
Harley, GOOD LUCK tonight!! I was a day early with those wishes yesterday, but will definitely be thinking about you and praying for a huge turnout tonight! Deanna
-
Last night was light exercise of playing wii bowling and golf after dinner with DH. I was not really into it and he won both!!!
This afternoon, going to gym for weight training and treadmill or bike.
Leaving this wkend for a family bridal shower and then vacation! yay!!! I will check in if I can!
-
Hi all! I've been lurking. Still walking the Dd and went to the center 3 timess this week. Trying to get back into it again. This summer has been really hot and humid and then we get to complain about the cold soon.
Spring - do you remember who had the calendars for '11 at the retreat? I've found 3 places that will sell them for her.
Working nights for the next 3. Good luck Harley. Hope the weather holds for ya and good luck with the new offers. Night to all.
-
I've not been on the boards as much, work has been crazy busy. But, I've been making time for the workouts. Still mixing it up so I don't get bored with any one thing.
-
Hi, all ~ Just a real quick report in... I walked 3.4 miles yesterday (my b'day), and 4.875 today. Supposed to hit something like 118 later, and it's already way too hot to be out there. Thinking of dropping the health club we'd joined not too long ago after DH had an episode of identity theft that we both think stemmed from their membership enrollment form. Be very careful to whom you give a credit card number! Deanna
-
Hi, all... The fundraiser was a SMASHING SUCCESS!! I have raised (altogether, after my expenses) $1400. I have three or four t shirts on order, so there will be more. My goal was $1000, and I already had $535 donated on my website, and I also had about $400 in donations from friends before my fundraiser.... WHOHOO!
Deanna, I checked out that website about scholarships, and you have to be under 25 years of age... I am only a 'little bit' over 25.... DARN!! So I guess us 'OLDSTERS' don't qualify for scholarships... Someone called me an OLDSTER...
Take care everyone. Hope you all have a GREAT WEEK!!
Harley
-
Harley congratulations!!!
I am back to work today.
I just love being home and doing what I want. Oh well, I'll save so much more money this way. Have a great rest of the week everyone!
-
CONGRATULATIONS, HARLEY!!!!!! So proud of you!!!!! You really took control and made it happen!
-
Great Harley!
Joy, I don't remember who it was about the calendars!!
On vacation. Rode bikes for 2 hours yesterday, I think about 18 miles. I discovered you can go a LOT faster on the road than the bike path, ha ha. Near the end I just wanted to be home (It was getting dark and buggy) and so I was speeding along off the bike path on the road. Felt so fast!
Today we walked for about an hour on the beach. Luckily it was a little cloudy so we didn't get toasted!
We are playing Wii golf and bowling each afternoon during the peak heat and sun. Fun!
Getting text and twitter reports from both our girls who are at college. It's a great way to keep up. Get this tweet I just got from my older daughter: "Adorable boy in GIS class, why do you not shower or use deoderant? it makes my daydreaming much more difficult".
LOL LOL LOL.... these girls so crack me up!!
