First of all I would like to send a hug to all of you brave ladies fighting this terrible disease.

I came across this forum researching for my mother. She is 57 yrs old and jokingly the other day was telling me that her left nipple has suddenly became inverted. I took this info seriously and have scheduled a Dr appt for her for tomorrow. My quest. is she is getting older and not in the best shape, she has been a smoker most of her life and we have a history of breast cancer in the family, she said her nipple inversion started a few weeks ago with no other symptoms or soreness, did any of you have just that as a symptom? I am trying to get info before her appt tomorrow, and what types of quest. should we ask? Thanks for reading ladies and I hope nothing but the best for you all!!!

I totally agree with Bonnie. Mine came on with first the inverted nipple. Started on a Wednesday. Then became heavy, larger, hot, orange peel skin. Started having some pain behind the nipple. By Monday, the other symptoms came on. Saw the dr. the following Wednesday. So, within a weeks time I had all these symptoms. I had a very good family dr. who knew what IBC was. He sent me to an oncologist who sent me to a surgeon who confirmed with a biopsy. Total 2 week time period. They moved very fast. Thank God. Hope you mother doesn't have IBC, but if she does, this is the place to come for comfort, support and any questions you may have. These women are a great comfort and have been through almost everything you can imagine. Good luck and God Bless. Leisa

Thanks so much for your replies ladies!

We just got back from the gyn/oncologist's office, he did a exam and brought up to us about IBC so I felt comfortable from that point on that he knows what he's doing, he is setting my mom up for blood work, mamogram and a biopsy, so we should here something tomorrow about the date for all this. He said from the exam he didnt feel anything abnormal so Im hoping thats a good sign.  I will keep you all informed as to what we find out, again thanks for your time in responding to me, and good luck to all you ladies!!!

An inverted nipple can be a sign of breast cancer in general or a mass under the nipple causing it to invert.  It doesn't necessarily have to be IBC.  I hope there is a benign cause!  Good luck!

I had an inverted nipple 11 years ago.  That turned out to be a very very small DCIS tumour which was removed, nothing in lymph nodes and nothing until this recent episode of IBC in other breast which started off as a small rash initially, then nipple inverted.  They couldnt feel anything and nothing showed up on mammo. Hope your mum does not have IBC but glad that you are getting appointments quickly and supporting her., she needs that.  Good luck and keep us posted. Kathy
