Is anyone on this trial? It compares Herceptin with Lapatinib, both start at the same time as Taxol.

My partner, Joyce, is on the trial. She has arm three - Herceptin followed by Tykerb (lapatinib).

I am in the trial...got arm 1.  Just doing Herceptin now every 3 weeks.  Side effects are minimal for me.  I get winded easily, my eyelashes and brows fell out, I have gained weight and my nose runs at the most inconvenient times.  But it is so much better than the Taxol.  I also have problems with urinary tract infections from the H so am on a maintenance dose of cipro.

I am in the trial but have not been randomized yet... So far I have had 3 cycles of Adriamycin and Cytoxin.  One to go! YAY... then I will be randomized.

I feel pretty good. Next I will get either taxol, every week for 6 weeks or taxotere every 3 weeks for 3 months.   Any suggestions or input? thanks...

    Hi all!

I have gotten the offer to do the trial and I need to decide by tomorrow. What do you know about Lapatinib (Tykerb)? What made you decide that this trial would be good to do? I am just sitting down to find out what I can on the internet, but I would really appreciate it if anyone had some information. Thanks!

I'm just wondering how everyone is doing? I am on this trial and will be randomized soon. I've done 2 x FEC 100 so far. Two more to go and then Taxol + Herceptin or Tykerb.

I started the trial July 26th and am on arm 2.  I get 6 cycles of taxotere and carboplatin, at 3 week intervals, and will be on Tykerb daily for one year.  The Tykerb dose is 750 mg during the chemo cycles and will then be increased to 1500 for the last six months.  I was, of course, hoping to get placed in arm 4, where they get a full year of both Herceptin and Tykerb, but at least am glad to get the Tykerb.  Rachel

Welcome Rachel! I also got the Tykerb arm only and at first was disappointed. But I am betting that Tykerb is going to prove itself better (crossing the blood/brain barrier) than Herceptin so feel lucky. For a long time I was thinking of withdrawing from the trial after 6 months so I could get 6 months of Herceptin as well (I know- not very ethical). But then my liver numbers started going up and I was in danger of being thrown off the trial- then I really wanted to stay on the trial! We Tykerb women are so lucky because we can always go over to Herceptin if something happens with Tykerb, while the Herceptin women have no back-up (if they aren't on a trial).

Good luck with any SE's you have and feel free to PM me!
