Reduced Kidney Function Related to Tamoxifen?
Can anyone help with this?
I have some concern about my EGFR after getting a copy of my most recent blood work from my physical in May. I looked up the results and it shows chronic kidney disease. I have been on Tamoxifen since November and I have been doing mostly well on it. However I have just one kidney and I need it to last for many more years so is it possible for Tamoxifen to mess up my kidney function?

I have chronic kidney disease after all of the cancer treatments. I'm seeing a nephrologist, and he says it's from CT scan dyes and chemo. I had to go off of all NSAIDs and change my diet. I pulled the diet from the NIH website. I was too overwhelmed to take in all of the information when he was telling me the details. I'm hoping that I am holding my own. I go back in October for a recheck.

I've never heard of this from tamoxifen.

I started Tamoxifen on April 13, 2013...After 6 weeks of Breast Radiation...May 1,2013, Labs show CKD (stage 3 kidney disease), Elevated Tryglicerides, Elevated HgbA1C (glucose). I am so full of ANXIETY now, that I can barely function! I have never used salt, eat pretty healthy, enjoyed desserts, Social drinker so very rarely, never smoked, like my meat potato and veggies, started eatting all the colors of fruits and veggies, even forced myself to start liking Salmon!!! NOW, my food list of cans and can'ts just went buzerk on me! I am so beside myself! I just Pray every day for the readings to be wrong, or caused from the radiation (puts alot of stress on the body), or the Tamoxifen, and that they will get better when treatments are stopped! So,If I can find liver & kidney function results from before treatments began, than I could have my answers/peace of mind back!

I just got blood work done July 5 and got the results yesterday. I've been on Tamoxifen since Feb. 2012 and have mostly tolerated it. (although the cognitive effects are frustrating to me)
The blood work results came back with a low value for GFR, and the doctor, when she sent them to me wrote "No worries." I'm seeing my MO in a week and I'll ask her about it. I hope it's not related but it still does seem like something to at least monitor. I wonder if anyone else has any info/experience with this.

Shifting to current topic of CKD

Some of us with low GFR get better results if we drink a lot of water the morning of the test. If you have a low GFR and are well-hydrated, that is a different story. My MD's are never worried about mine. My GFR does indeed rise from as low as 45 to 65 if I drink water.
