Has anyone here taken l glutamine to prevent chemo induced neuropathy?  If you have what protocol did you follow?

It's been a couple of years for me but I seem to remember 10 grams 3 times a day for a daily total of 30 grams.  It was two scoops of powder dissolved in whatever you're drinking - - I used Crystal Light a lot -- and I drank it at meals so I wouldn't forget.  I had weekly Taxol, no neuropathy but my onc thought it was just a placebo effect.  I don't care, I'll take it.  Hopefully someone with more recent experience will chime in here.  I bought it at Super Supplements.

starz ~ I didn't do the I-glutamine (because I didn't know about it at the time), but I did use B6, and that helped noticeably with the neuropathy from TC.    Deanna

Thanks for the replies ladies.  I have heard so many different answers for the amount to take.  I had heard 10 grams 3xda on another forum.  I also heard that vitamin B6 & B12 were good.

Coss - several ladies told me either their oncologists or onc nurses told them about the l glutamine.

I'm a 21 year breast cancer survivor who is now facing ovarian cancer.  Many of the drugs are used for both.  I'm going to be getting IV Taxol and IP Cisplatin.

My oncologist prescribed 8-12grams 2x a day.  He also said it helps with inflammation of mucus membranes and burning, peeling, or swelling of the tongue.  I can verify that.  I got a tongue that felt like sand paper 5 days after receiving my first tch treatment at which time i had been taking 8g 2x/day and by the 8th day it was almost back to normal. I think if i had started taking it a week before the chemo it wouldn't have happened.  Now on day 11 my mouth has normal saliva production.  I wouldn't go through this without it.  I have also been on a vegan diet which i began 5 months before starting chemo.  I have experienced no nueropathy yet. I am also taking CQ10.
