    Hi everyone,

I have been having pain in my left hip and lower back for some time. My breast cancer was also on the left side. I can't help but wonder if this could be a spread to my bones. My Mother had bc that spread to her bones. Do you think I should have this checked out (maybe it's arthritis)? Or am I just being paranoid?

Christy, not sure how old you are but I have hip pain which comes and goes. I am 62 and figure it is some kind of arthritis. Had the pain before the breast cancer dx but every ache and pain makes me  a little nutsy since being diagnosed.  I mentioned it to my ONC and he was not concerned at all but I think you need to put in a call to your doctor and find out one way or the other. I find that being in LIMBO is horrid. Good luck, Sue

    Thank You Sue,

I also get a little "nutsy" since being diagnosed. I will be 52 years old this coming August. I think because of what happened to my Mom, makes me a little more anxious.

It is very likely nothing -- just regular aches and pains.  But mention it to your doc and see if you should get a scan.

It seems like almost everyone here has hip pain.  Its probably nothing.  Follow the two week rule.  If its still bothering you at 2 weeks have it checked out, for your own peace of mind.

If it continues for more than three weeks have it investigated more.  I did earlier this year and it was only sciatica thankfully, not pleasant, but better than cancer:)

Thank You everyone for the thoughts and well wishes. I do however have sciatica, but that is on the other side. This is more of a deep aching pain that occurs more often upon getting up from a sitting postion. I know that I could check with my doctor, it just seems once I go I end up having to keep going for more issues. I guess I'm just looking for an easy answer.

    Hi Christy,

Just wanted to share that I have had hip pain for about 3 mo. finally got xray and there is nothing! no arthritis, or lesions. they said that it was probably "bursitis" from walking. I pray you have nothing too.. Blessings..

I too had bursitis from walking 2 cortisone shots , I am pain free and leaving for Japan on Wed. Good Luck! My onc said if the pain stays it is worrisome if it comes and goes, not so much!  I hope this helps!

I, too, am having hip pain and have had an xray - showed nothing, an MRI - showed torn labrum (cartilage), but now doctor wants me to have a bone scan.  I waited 3 months with this pain before checking into it.  I know getting old pain and this ain't it.  Something is torn or pinched....we'll see what very soon.  Deep, dull ache which hurts all the time......sitting, standing, walking and sleeping......i hope you get some relief soon. Both physically and psychologically.  Hope it is nothing.  Prayers for you all.

BONE SCAN CLEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Whew!  I now have to have a shot in hip to determine if that takes care of the pain.  My advice......do whatever it takes to get you peace of mind.  Thanks for everything!

I start worrying every year before my checkup and the CT always turns up clear on my hip and back pain. Just sciatica.

Your mind can really run away with you.

I hope it turns out to be nothing.

I've been suffering from persistent pain in my pelvic region (left side) for about 9 months and thought it was to do with my ovary, which has grown a few different kinds of cysts in it's lifetime, but I had a laporoscopy in March 2010 as the gyno said it would be endometriosis.  It turned out that my ovary was fine and there was no endo but the pain is still there.  It's been bugging the hell out of me.  It's a deep seated pain, in my left hip/ilium region and it's started to get worse lately.  I had my annual breast check-up last week (all clear) and my doctor asked me how my general health was so I mentioned this pelvic pain and the next thing I know she's filling out a request to have a bone scan.  I'm thinking, 'what do I need a bone scan for??'  I've booked it in for next Thursday morning and am now waiting with baited breath that it's not what my doctor thinks it might be... Hopefully it will turn out to be tendon or muscle related.  I haven't injured anything at all, so I'm not sure why I'm having this pain.  :(

I have been reading your posts about hip pain. I am having terrible hip pain. My mother died of BC that went to her bones so it makes me worried. My onc said they don't usually do scans while a pt is still doing herceptin. I finish it in Dec. I would really love a scan just for peace of mind. The pain has been bothering me since June when I did a 2 day bc walk that was 35 miles.

If I had mets to the hip/lower back would I have any other signs? Any info would be appreciated.
