Hi everyone - i really need some advice as feel i am banging my head against a brick wall. I was diagnosed with BC three yrs ago when i was 30 had a mastectomy and 6 mths of chemo and 2 yrs of tamoxifen and zoladex, I finished the tamox and zol 6 mths ago and am desperate for my periods to come back. I have recently got married and we are desperate for a family. I have also had no sex drive for two yrs and this is becoming an issue also. Has anyone else been through a similar scenario and have any comments they would like to make - heres hoping, Em

    Hi Em.

I'm not married and my cancer generated a hysterectomy so, not even close to your situation, but wanted to send you a cyber hug. ((hug))

One of our sisters on here, Gina, wrote a book that is really good. It's called "Intimacy after Breast Cancer". You can buy it on Amazon. All kinds of good stuff in there. I'm not through it yet, so not sure if she discusses periods returning or not, but I bet she does.

Good luck with making a family Em. I know how it feels to want that.

    Hugs, Traci

you bring up such an important topic!

I too (like Traci ) had a hysterectomy years ago at the ge of 35.  I share the frustration of lack of sex drive that many women do, regardless of the source.

Even though I am triple negative, my Onc did not want me to use Estrace...and after my tears agreed to using it minimally.  There are vaginal changes that are inevitable after menapause, short or long term.  Estrace is something that helps me not to feel vaginal pain/discomfort.

I was going to check in with the holistic thread to see if this topic has been discussed and see what other treatments are available for lubrication etc..that are recommended for BC patients.

I also know I have read stories of ladies having children after breast cancer, and they will be on here soon.  Many happy stories :)

Be patient with yourself...and we women are also very cerebral when it comes to arousal, and I think it is possible to re-define what sexuality is, and to re-wire your brain while learning more about your body now, with and without hubby.

Thanks for bringing this topic to the forefront, and I will be interested to hear some of the woman's wisdom from here.

    Hi

I was diagnosed at the age of 30, and did Tamoxifen and Zolodex, after doing 16 weeks of chemo and 5 weeks of radio.

I had 1 1/2 years of Tamoxifen (Mar 07 - Sept 08) and six months of Zolodex (Jun 07 - Jun 08). My periods stopped during chemo, then came back, then stopped during Tamoxifen/Zolodex. They came back two months after stopping Tamoxifen but that was also five months after Zolodex. I actually stopped Zolodex earlier than the Tamoxifen because I'd heard that it took a while for your body to get going again after Zolodex.

I feel as though I'm not really the poster girl for post-bc pregnancy because I did have a recurrence, but my oncologist said it came back so quickly and was so widespread that he feels as though it would have come back anyway.

In any case, I'm so glad I had a baby - I got pregnant four months after stopping Tamoxifen (via IVF) and had a baby boy last year.

    Good luck!

    Kate
