Stage 4 IBC Stop chemo
Comments
-
I would like to hear from any stage 4 IBC ladies that have decided to discontinue chemo and use other options to maintain a good quality of life. Thanks
-
I was just diagnosed Stage IV a week and a half ago and have started new chemo drugs. I will continue until my quality of life is worse with chemo than without. For me, my age (just turned 40) and the fact that my kids are 11, 14,15 keep me fighting. There have been 3 IBC women who have lost their battle in the last 6 months and one of them, Amber (who started the thread about sharing our IBC stories) was only 32 or 33 years old with 5 small kids at home....and she continued to fight until the side effects were too much. Not sure if that helps, but those are my thoughts

Sorry you have to face stage 4, it's not easy even knowing the kind of cancer we have. I have been stage 4 since 9/08. I was first diagnosed at age 38 and am now 41. Thank you for your reply. I hope for the best for you. Elizabeth
-
Elizabeth, Please tell me what treatment you are on, were you dx at stage iv? -
Yes, I am stage 4. I did end up deciding to continue treatment. Since the stage 4 Dx I have been on Tamoxifen, Xeloda (chemo pills), tried Gemzar (chemo) and have now been on Taxol since 2/10.

Elizabeth, I was diagnosed stage IV ibc w/ bone mets 6/09. I did taxotere, cytoxin & some adriamyacin and also zometa for the bone mets. I will continue zometa and I'm on Femara after chemo as an AI to keep my estrogen minimal. I heard ER patients have a lot of options as far as drugs to take without going back on chemo as long as we stay stable. I'm pretty stable so far, although it's only been just over a year since diagnosis. I hope you continue some type of treatment that is doable for you. Let your onc know what problems you are having so they may be able to remedy them.
Hugs,
Terri

Hi Bonnie, those were the drugs I was on. When one quit working I went to the next one. I am currently on Taxol, I've been on it since 2/10. The side effects were not as bad as I thought they would be. I've been on Aredia monthly for the bone mets in addition to the one I'm on at the time. I've been on the Aredia since 9/08. If the Taxol quits working my onc wants to try Navelbine. I had a PET scan today because the CA27.29 went up and I've had more pain on my left side where the skin mets and lymphedema are. I was stage 3B when diagnosed in 2007.
One day at a time with the Lord's help, Elizabeth
-
Yes they are similar. I didn't know they staged lymphedema, I'll have to check it out.

Stay strong my brave sister! I am 23 years old. I was diagnosed 5 months ago. I was told I would be lucky if I made it past 6 months, but I put my faith in the Lord. Five months later, I'm cancer free! Don't give up. I almost did after my first chemo, but life is beautiful and worth every single treatment. Have faith...
