Ladies, can you share what your initial symptoms were, and if you got the run around from doctors regarding non specific rashes, bug bites ect.   I have developed a persistant large reddened area under left breast, don't know who to turn to or go to regarding the symptoms for proper evaluation.  Thanks  Terri

I am in the same boat except my reddened area was around the nipple and the skin to the left was solid.  It happened quickly (over the past 3 weeks) so I met with my doctor and told him I wanted a diagnostic mammogram and biopsy.  I got both last week and I have stage 3 invasive breast cancer and will find out tomorrow if it is IBC.  Demand to get checked.  Don't let your doctor brush you off.  Go to another doctor and get a second opinion.  Print the a copy of the signs and symptoms of IBC and take it to your doctor.  Good luck!

Hello ladies, My family practioner knew what IBC was. Just so happened his own wife had just been diagnosed a few months earlier. He sent me to the same dr. his wife is going to. I had all the classic symptoms. Enlarged and heavy breast, hot to the touch, inverted nipple, orange peel look, sharp shooting pains (like someone stabbing me with a knife). Not everyone has the same symptoms. Some women on her have only had what looked like a bug bite. Most of the time a mamogram and a sonogram(sp) will NOT show anything. Most of the time you need a biopsy to be properly diagnosed. If you are not satisfied with the answer from your dr. get a second opinion.  Cheryl is right it is nothing to mess around with, it is very aggressive, so you need to act quickly. Here's to hoping neither one of you have IBC. It really sucks. God bless and good luck. Keep us posted.(((HUGS)))  Leisa

Hello ladies:  My first symptom was a rash on my breast September/09.  The breast surgeon in the very well renowned breast clinic told me it was 'nothing to worry about - come back in April next year for your routine mammogram'.  Of course this was what I wanted to hear and skipped out of the office and went on a hiking/backpacking holiday.  By the end of November I had inverted nipple and full blown IBC. As Leisa and everyone else says, it really sucks.  Good luck and do keep us posted.  Kathy

My first symptom was a4 in diameter rash on the inside of my right breast just to the left of the nipple.  My nipple did not invert.  Rash appeared overnight, but I had itching for about a week & sore lymph nodes in the arm pits. 10 day antibiotic, referred to a breast specialist who was persistant in diagnosing my IBC.
