Melissa Etherage concert
My daughter and I wentt Sundaybefore last to the Ryman in Nashville and it was a teriffic concert--that woman didn't leave the stage for 2 hours and 45 min. Some show. What a strong voice she has! Had to give her a lot of credit re: I Run For Life.
I was amazed at the roar from an estrogen filled facility (LOL) when she began singing that song! She asked for a show of hands from surviviors and then from care givers. Incredible. I amazed myself by crying thru half the song and being hugged by my daughter. We got LOUD!

Wow! That sounds awesome....I have tears in my eyes just reading about it!

Dotti...what an amazing time you must have had! That song came out after I had lost my best friend to bc, but before I was diagnosed. It was amazing how different my perspective was going from a friend of someone w/bc to having the bc. I was amazed how she could articulate the experience like that. Truly a wordsmith if you ask me...I think I may have to go play it now

Thanks for sharing your experience, Dotti. I love Melissa E, both for her music and for her gutsy approach to difficult situations. That song, I Run For Life, was released on the same day (I think it was 10/5/05) that I got word from my surgeon that my lumpectomy path showed clean margins and I could move on to rads. I bought the album on my way home from the hospital and listened when I got home. Although I hadn't shed even one tear from the day I was diagnosed in April, that song triggered the outpouring of all the pent up fear and anxiety and I cried like I never had before in my life. Powerful stuff, I'd say.
It's also nice that you got to share that experience with your daughter.

Hey, Girl, haven't seen you around! yeah, it was a good experience to go with dd. And, yes, I feel her music is full of strength. I gain strength from it, too.

Dotti, that must have been wonderful. Last year a dance studio in Hickory created a dance to that music and performed it at the 'Through Healing Eyes' gala and also at the local Race for the Cure. I wish I had a copy of that dance to watch. I tear up every time I think about that song and those wonderful young people doing their interpretive dance.

That sounds like a Very Moving & Awesome experience!
Im glad you got to share it with your daughter.
I just went & Listened to the song on Youtube.
I also love this Song. I remember reading the story- well I dont remember well...but she was just finishing treatment or had & was still very tired. At about 4:37 into this song when she rolled her eyes back She was thinking How am I going to make it through the song.
But she did & So well!

I have that youtube Piece of My Heart (tribute to Janis Jopline) when she was bald and she really belted it out, like Jopin, on my favorite list. I turn to it when I am low. Which, happily, is not so often, but it does give me a real boost.
I took the rolling eyes as "a woman can be tough". As she and all chemo takers ARE. Yes, I did read that she wasn't sure she could make it thru the song due to being tired, but boy did she dot it!
