I Can Relate
I am almost 2 weeks out of radiation. 6 weeks of treatment was like a walk in the park to how I feel now. I was fortunate with my diagnosis as in sintu ductal carcinoma was caught very early. I am surprised as I was not expecting this much pain and the lack of energy is crazy. Like a Mack truck ran over me repeatedly. I am thankful although the medical profession doesn't prepare you for the aftermath. Gods speed to all.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear you are feeling worse now than during treatment. I am a little over halfway through radiation and was REALLY hoping that my energy would rebound quickly - getting tired of shuffling through life like a zombie.
Best wishes,
Karen

Lynnie and karen, rads does drop your red and white blood cell count. In my case, it also dropped my vitamin B12 alarmingly. Have your PCP run tests. After a B12 shot and two days of supplements, I was back to normal: no naps needed.

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for the suggestion. My blood counts were checked a couple weeks ago as part of a routine physical, but I still felt okay then. Maybe I'll ask them to check again, because I am seriously wiped out. I am now drinking Boost, because my appetite is zilch (I think due to fatigue as much as anything - I'm just too tired to eat).

I know lots of people sail through radiation, but I was not one of them. Radiation made me the most tired I have ever been in my life. No amount of sleep would relieve that tiredness. My husband and a friend both went through this same tiredness. It just takes time, for me it took longer than most people. Hoping that you are feeling better soon. NJ

I felt worse the two weeks after zaps ended than I did during zaps. It wasn't just the tiredness, it was the owey boobie that sent me home from work early each day. It also turned out that the extreme tiredness that carried on past the owie boobie was a sign that I had developed radiation pneumonitis---you know, one of those things NO ONE gets...... Well, I got it. It took a trip to a pulmonologist, a CAT scan [was due anyway] & a breathing function test to diagnoisis which was followed by one more MRI to make sure it was gone. On the bright side, I got better and didn't need steroids.
Push it with your doctor. Feel better soon

My fatigue let up some on the third week after radiation. I am now five weeks out and can almost grocery shop the whole store. So hang in there, it will get better. If not in another week go see your Rad's Oncologist.
