IBC symptoms
I am anxiously awaiting an appoitment with a breast specialist (appoitnment on Aug. 9).
I went to my ob/gyn a month ago when I had a itchy spot across a tiny area of my aerola and onto the breast - maybe 1/2 inch total. It itched like an insect bite (not signs of a bite - just a pink spot). Dr. gave me a steriod cream, it cleared it up in two days. The itching was only evident for part of one day. This all occured a few days before the start of my period, so both breast were sore as usual.
Then during my period I had some unusual symptoms in BOTH breasts, anything from brief shooting pains to aches and then also nipple stimluation (very strange feeling that accelerated around day 10 of my cycle). It would occur in the left side and then late the right side would have a similar feeling, but was usually more evident in the left.
I take bioidentical progesterone on days 10-26 of my cycle (I'm 45, not yet in menopause). When I started my progesterone on day 10, things started to settle down and everything was good by day 12.
I then re-started with pre-menstration tenderness about a week before the next cycle. Both breast were very sore (sometimes mine are very sore, sometimes not). Then a few days before my period, we had been to the lake - very hot humid day - & I noticed a small red patch just outside the areola (same location where itch was previously - but this time no itching). I used the steriod cream that evening & went back to the dr. then next morning. By the morning, it changed to a light pink flush outside the top of the areola. Dr. said he would go ahead & refer me to the breast specialist just to make sure we weren't missing anything. It did go away in 2 days with the steriod cream, but of course I am very frightened about IBC and Paget's.
So now I have had two occurences of a rash-like symptom just a few days before a period. Even though they have gone away with treatment, I am still very concerned since I know from reading the posts here that the symptoms of IBC can come and go. Since this is when the breast is most swollen and tender, I of course am concerned that an underlying problem may be more evident at that time. I am on day 2 of my period now, and everything is fine. I just about have myself convinced I have IBC or Paget's - it's just the waiting for the specialist appointment that is hard so thought it would help to converse with you all. You all are an amazing and inspring group of wonderful women. Thanks for letting me share with you.

Since you seem to have some of the symptoms in both breasts and it seems to fluctuate with your hormonal cycle, I would tend to think that it is NOT IBC. But, you are doing the right thing getting it checked out. You might want to take some pictures of the rash so you can compare if there are any changes. You think you'll be able to remember how it looks, but then you don't. Just a suggestion. Please let us know what you find out.

That is a great suggestion. I wish I had taken a picture before the rash went away. I will definately take a picture if/when it comes back.

Also, I would reconsider taking any bioidenticals. They can be dangerous, and can actually promote cancers that are estrogen and/or progesterone sensitive. See the following:
