Don't let the FDA remove Avastin
I found this in "active topics" in the Stage IV forum and thought it more than worth passing on. I posted in the research forum but I'm trying to reach as many people as possible without being intrusive. If you support this, post it on your FB page and ask your friends to do the same.
The FDA is considering taking away Avastin for metastatic breast cancer, not for safety reasons, but because current clinical studies didn't show that it extends lives as long as the FDA thinks it should. While the drug doesn't help everyone, many women respond well to it and have been able to continue to enjoy their lives and families.
PLEASE consider signing this petition: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/3/stop-the-fda-from-disproving-avastin-to-treat-metastatic-breast-cancer
Don't let the FDA take hope and life away from anyone who may need this.

SIgn the petition and post the link to your facebook page. Lets get the bandwagon going.

I am torn about this. Not being 3 or 3 staged, I shouldn't become involved, I suppose.
To me, when a drug is pulled, it's not working like the company said it would. That means they have to go back to work and find a better one. I HOPE.
If it's not FDA approved, ins. will not pay for it and the cost is sky HIGH, and would be private pay. It's a drug that I think I read was more effective in other types of cancers than bc. At thousands and thousands of dollars for a treatment, we can only hope that we can get more length and QUALITY of life, not just an extension of a few weeks, which was the case in the 80's with some of the meds for cancer.
I'd rather read more about it and understand better better before i sign a petition of some sort.

I'm stage 2, but at this point I can't imagine not being involved in anything that helps fight cancer, but I know that's me and not everyone.
I'm sure you can google it and get more information, and of course you don't have to sign any petition or support this if you don't feel comfortable with it. I'm not suggesting you do otherwise. I'm just trying to get the word out to people who may want to support it.
The drug is still going to be manufactured and sold -- they're only pulling it for BC, not for other cancers. There are several stories on this forum and other places of people who are alive (and enjoying life) today because of Avastin. Those in the later stages of BC have options but not every option works for every person, and I hate to see any option taken away from anyone who might benefit. That's why I'm comfortable supporting this.

I signed the petition and didn't bother thinking twice about it. I am Stage I, and hope to stay there. Not all drugs work for all people as the companies say they do. That's why there are so many drugs for so many diseases. "This is the best!" "No, this is!" What works for one, doesn't for the next. We are as individual in ourselves as we are in our disease... and it doesn't have to be cancer. Just my thought.
Thanks for posting this, Naturegrrl.
