Chicago doctors
Mammogram resulted in calcifications and a biopsy is required. My doctor requires a visit to the surgeon before the biopsy. Looking for top surgeon in Chicago and any specialist with DCIS. How do you find the top doctors if you do not know of anyone to ask for referrals? My doctor has referred me to only doctors in his network. I am interested in seeing the best.

I'd go to one of the NCI designated Cancer Centers in Chicago - either the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwestern or the Univ of Chicago Cancer Research Center.
Northwestern:
Galter Pavilion
675 N. St. Clair, 21st Floor
Chicago, IL 60611312-908-5250
1-866-587-4322 (1-866-LURIE-CC) (Appointment Line)http://cancer.northwestern.edu/home/index.cfm
From a quick search, it looks like the breast cancer surgeons at Northwestern are:
Nora M. Hansen, Seema A. Khan, Jacqueline Jeruss and Kevin P. Bethke
U Chicago:
5841 South Maryland Avenue
Chicago, IL 60637773-702-6180
1-888-824-0200 (New Patients)http://www-uccrc.uchicago.edu/
Surgeons: Nora Jaskowiak, MD (head of the UC breast center) and Asha Chhablani, MD
I don't know who's the best or if any of them are DCIS experts....but it's somewhere to begin your research. I'm a believer in being treated at the major cancer centers if possible.

There are a lot of good surgeons in Chicago, but I heartily recommend Kevin Bethke at Northwestern. Many people I know--patients, other surgeons--consider him the best. The mayor's wife is one of his patients.

If you are still looking to find a surgeon in the Chicago area, you can visit http://www.castleconnolly.com and select the appropriate 'Specialty' from the drop down menu and enter your zip code. The results will show the nearest Top Doctors in that field.
Top Doctors are selected after Castle Connolly surveys thousands of physicians and other healthcare professionals and asks them to identify excellent doctors in every specialty in their region and throughout the nation.
Best,
Castle Connolly

And, I'd highly recommend Dr. Nora Hansen @ Northwestern. She's been great!

Dr Nora Jaskowiak is my BC and Dr David Song is my PS. Both are at UCMC - excellent docs....highly recommend both. Excellent bed-side manner and Dr Song is an artist when it comes to free flaps. Mine looks and feels great. I will have some refining surgery done, but it will be minimal since he did such a great time the first go-round. Dr J is a straight talking woman, love her. Educated at Harvard.
Good luck

I'd recommend Dr. Matt Hyser of St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. (It's part of the Resurrection Health Care group). He's also the head of the teaching group there. He did my surgery seven years ago and is very caring as well as a great surgeon.

I am where you were when you posted your question. Just diagnosed with DCIS with suspicion for invasion. I saw Dr. Bethke but am wondering if I should get a 2nd opinion and if so, with whom? Which surgeon did you use? Any recommendations from anyone?
