I had a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction on 4/29/10.  I had drains for 6 days and everything is good except on my right side I have a seroma.  I do not have pain with it or any fever.  I go back on 7/21 to the Plastic surgeon for him to check it.  He is afraid to go in because of the risk of infection.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

tashrox - I had a bmx two years ago, and got enormous seromas on both sides. the sloshing around feeling was horrible. Since I live on an island and it would have been a trek to the surgeon, my internist drained them. I think he got 90cc's out of one. Our thought was that if the fluid were to continue to build, something might rupture. (this did happen to me a month later, after a lymph node dissection.....it was horrible. After it ruptured, all that could be done was to pack it, bandage it, and wait for the gaping hole to heal from the inside out. That did get infected, and it was a nightmare. Do not recommend). Anyway, he just sterilized the injection site, inserted the syringe, and pulled the fluid out.(They will send it in to see if its infected). Pain increased for a couple of days, because it was skin against facia again, the fluid had been a buffer. Anyway, we ended up doing this 2 or 3 times, and it really sped up the healing time. Ask your Dr. about weighing benefits vs risks. They could also put you on a prophylactic antibiotic. Mine were really uncomfortable, and sloshing like water balloons.....feel free to pm me.

    Best of luck....

I had PBM on July 1st, felt something near right axillary (armpit fat as I call it) and told PS yesterday.  He felt it, called it seroma, wrote me a prescription to have ultrasound find it and remove it with a needle.  I guess I haven't been too worried, it's small, but just going to get it taken care of.  He said he would "blindly" do it (no ultrasound at his office) but afraid he might puncture my expander, so sending me to ultrasound.  He said it might take a couple times to get rid of it.  It doesn't feel too big to me, but not sure.  Sounds like Daffodil45 had the same thing done to remove it. Hope this helps!

I had a PMast w/noR a month ago. I got a buildup of fluid and they pulled 70mls of fluid out about 10 days ago. It started building up again then I noticed for a while it was less in the mornings. Now a couple of days ago its started building up again. Now I would say its a bit more than before the 1st aspiration. Im going to see about making an appt tomorrow but I'll probably have to wait till early next week to get it done again.

daffodil that sounds like a real nightmare that you went through. Im sorry to hear that. Reading your story makes me I think Id sooner risk having the aspiration than waiting for a possible rupture, even though I'll probably have to not have any plaser on....the last lot gave me yet another reaction and the crazy rash is still there (sigh) .  I dont know what cc's are. We use mls, and my lil converter proggy says its the same measurement. If thats the case I reckon  Im not too far off your  90ccs.
