back and neck pain

Options

Hi All,

For past one week I have been having some pain (more like discomfort...not pain) in the neck and upper back region. Feels exactly like how you would feel if you slept in a bad posture, bad or pillow..or when you have less sleep...seems more like tightness and discomfort more than pain. The kind that makes you feel a lot better with a nice massage. Any one had this before being diagnosed with mets? There could be various non-mets reasons for this but I am worried.....

On this forum there is a topic Arthritis vs. bone mets with a lot of info.  You might want to check in over there and read through some of it.

    Jersey Mom,

I see from some of your previous post that you have a mastectomy on one side.

I was in a similar situation with a right breast mastectomy.  The asymmetry was causing me neck and shoulder pain.  I then had the second breast removed and my neck, back and shoulders muscles really went nuts on me (similar to what you describe and I also lost range of motion).

An MRI showed that I had compressed discs in my neck.  I was in physical therapy for two months and am still doing the stretching exercises a year latter.  The exercises have helped a great deal.

It is possible that your asymmetry is adding strain to your muscles as your body mechanics are now off.

Have your pain check by your oncologist or PCP.  If it turns out to be muscular, ask for physical therapy.

I see this was posted a few months ago, but I would have to aggree with Sassa that it could be related to your asymmetry.  I had a double mastectomy, I lost 10 lbs of breast tissue, needless to say I've had quite a time of adjusting to the change of weight on my back.  I had joints issues to begin with so it took a year or more to adjust to the change. I hope that is all that it is and not something else. Hoping you are doing better
