Is anyone still out there from this group? Wanting to know if anyone is still suffering side-effects related to their surgery. I am still fighting lymphedema in my arm and upper trunk on the back. In OT working with a lymphedema specialist and we are making progress. Anyone else with lymphedema?

Hi Leslie - Several of us still post occasionally. I've been so busy with my son's graduation and now my folks move to a retirement apartment tomorrow. I'm exhausted today and the big day is still to come!

Saw my onc for the routine follow-up today. Other than my extreme tiredness, the only other symptom I still have is an occasional zinging pain on the back of my left arm. It's rare, takes me by surprise, and by the time I gasp - it's gone! According to him, it may always be there, or may go away. But it's really not a big deal for me. The tiredness - I'm TIRED of being tired!!!!! According to him - it's a combination of all the variables.....which I already knew!

Glad you're making progress with the lymphedema. My onc and surgeon insist that it's so rare with my surgery that I don't need to be concerned with prevention! Yet he asked today if I ever noticed any swelling in my arms.....and to let them know if I did! I really wonder if they are so worried about increasing our stress level that they try to downplay everything??? But I'd rather KNOW, and prevent...... Doubt if I can change them - so I'm glad for these boards so that I can be aware, and still filter some of the information! (A friend just told me that her surgeon made 3 requests when she was diagnosed - one of which was "no internet"! How arrogant is that? Doesn't he think she is smart enough to decide for herself which info is important and which needs filtered? Or at leat to ask if something sounds questionable? Wow!)

    Have a good weekend everyone!

HI Leslie- GOOD to hear from you, but sorry you're still having some trouble!  No, I haven't had any lymph. problems. I only had the SN removed.

Where I had my mx, there's still a little tightness or sometimes a pulling sensation, but not really pain. At the end of the day, I am really ready to take my bra off...it's tight at the bottom. Sometimes I've wondered if I could still be a little swollen there.  ????

Do you all ever think back and feel like everything we went through was a dream? Sometimes I ask myself: Did I really go through all that? In a way, I feel like I am just now processing it all....kinda like the reality of it all is just now hitting me.  Does that sound wierd?

    (HI 2Hands  :-)   )

I stopping by to say a quick hello!  All is going great with me and I pray with you all as well. I even have some fuzzy hair now... WooHoo  And to give a quick reminder that if your new to this site, I'm sorry but I also want you to know that you're not alone.  If anyone ever needs to talk PM me!  I usually don't post much anymore but I do check in and see what's going on.

Again, I have new pics of my exchange surgery that was back in April, if you're interested.

I sent the Moderators a message in April asking if we could add 2009 to this title so as not to confuse things in November. There was no response to me - but now I see the title is changed - to 2010! I'll send another message and hope this gets straightened out!

Hello Ms Marilyn!!!!!!!!!!! SO good to hear from you and that you are doing well! I MISS you on FB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2Hands--good idea to try to switch the year from 2010 to 2009! I sure wouldn't want to "sign up" again for another November surgery! :-) Once was enough for me! :-)

2Hands--I've just now noticed what you mean--this thread is now a combination of our year and the November to come. What a mess!

Sorry about the confusion. Is this correct now?! This was the original request:

Is there a way to change the title to add "2010" (November 2010 Mastectomy) so others won't be confused this fall? Or would this drop off of everyone's "Favorite" list. Can the title be changed but somehow connected - so that those still following this thread will automatically still connect to the same site! I know, I know....I expect computers to be able to do everything! If it's not possible, I'll just learn to be more specific next time!

Moderators:  "Our" title looks correct now. Thank you!

I don't suppose there's a way to notify people that if they signed up on this thread, thinking that it stood for Nov. 2010, they would probably want to delete their names and find the 2010 thread???

I'm the only one who can add to the original post as far as I can understand this system. The change only happened recently and no one new has been added. All those listed are really from the 2009 surgeries. I really doubt if anyone has already been scheduled for a 2010 mastectomy, as it's a little early.

My original post to the Moderators in the forum addressed to them was correct, but when I didn't get an answer, I sent them a PM which is what is listed above. Apparently my brain glitched that night and I made the mistake of saying 2010! Doesn't it seem like it was much more recent that clear back in 2009? Anyway, it's fixed now. Thank-you Moderators!

I'm busy, busy, busy! Still trying to help get my folks settled into their new "Senior" apartment. Youngest son is helping with the organizing of church camp this summer and we are supposed to help with some things also that week. It's always something to keep us busy in addition to the usual routines of cleaning, laundry, tutors, meals, etc! I seem to be fighting something like a chest cold but different from a head cold like I usually get. Tired somewhat more than usual, but seem to have cycles of that anyway and it's not enough to really slow me down much.

How is everyone else doing????? Those of us still following this thread would love to have you check in with an update.....but we understand the routine of moving on with the many aspects of daily living too.

God still has a Plan, and He IS in control - even in the times of trial and stress!

Checking in - doing well and looking at two more radiation zaps on Monday and Tuesday this week, then I am done. Skin is red, irritated and peeling. Rads also kicked up the lymphedema a notch. Can't wear my sleeve because it comes up too far under my arm and irritates the already red and peeling underarm. Oh well. I continue with daily exercises to keep mobility. Ready to ditch the wig due to the heat but hair isn't long enough to go out in public that way. I just torture my family with it when I get too hot. Laughing Hope others are doing well.

We've been camping this last week near the church camp where our son was assisting with the planning and organization of the week. Really enjoyed the time away - did some small hikes, took lots of pictures, enjoyed the clouds and the rushing river, and r-e-l-a-x-e-d!!! Still tired......but another week is here and need to pick up the pieces of reality and get ready for our 2 week vacation to Ohio!

Interesting enough, I just had 2 friends tell me that they are low in vitamin B - and they have both been so-o-o tired. They are both taking B complex vitamins now. I can't wait to see if their energy levels improve! One had surgery recently and one is still in treatment since Nov. 2008 for CIDP - a form of Guillian Barre. Hmmmmm.......

dmorgan - many friends, and relatives and more friends in Indiana. Sounds like some friends want us to go with them to the Creation Science Museum, and others want us to go with them to the Great Smokey Mountains. We'll also be in St. Louis one day, and up to Holmes Co. Ohio! Sounds fun and interesting - hope I'll not get too tired! It's such a Blessing to have such wonderful friends!!

Edit to add - we'll be around Dayton, Ohio except for these side trips!

    Hey 2Hands-

I guess our little site here has dwindled to just about me and you. :-)  But I guess that's a good thing. Everyone is probably getting back to life now. This time last year, we were all involved in our upcoming surgeries and sharing our fears, etc. together. I am SO glad it's not this time last year!...so grateful!

I was in the throes of trying to decide what kind of surgery to have, remember? I had my lump. in September. You really helped me through that time. I never will forget your sunrise picture you sent me from the day of your surgery.

I'm doing really well. I went recently for my first mammo on the remaining breast. The radiologist wanted 2 more pics because of something under the nipple. I didn't realize how that would make me feel.--- almost paniced--just wasn't expecting that. I got the "all clear."  I requested to speak with the tech and quizzed her about it all. I wanted an explanation and reassurance. My BS said IF I want to, I can come in to see him in 6 mo. for an ultrasound. I don't have to but if I want to, I can. I may just do that--for peace of mind. Otherwise, I'm to have another mammo in a year.

I'm back to teaching, so life is busy.

    You still doing good?

    Take care--

So great to hear an update, and so greatful we've come so far! God is still in control, just like He was last year, next year and forever! There will always be different issues in life.....someday we'll understand it all, and be able to truly rest from all our trials and labors here! The more trials we have, the more we look forward to that Day!

I'm doing well. So much more energy since I started B complex vitamins. It has made an obvious difference! My Oncologist still has me on a schedule, but longer between. I know to watch for re-occurance in the chest wall. Don't really mind the foobs, better than flat or reconstruction FOR ME!

My husband had prostate cancer in 2008, then my 2 surgeries in 2009 - I think we both have a new perspective - some things in life just aren't priority anymore, some things just aren't worth fretting about. We're thankful to be moving forward, giving God the praise and trusting Him for the future.

We leave soon for Los Angeles for a Prostate Cancer Seminar. Just a quick weekend trip with alot of great information and a break from routine! I'll check in when we return! Let's stay in touch!

    Hello Everyone!

I'm so sorry I haven't been in touch lately.  A lot of good things have happened and some not so good but that's life.. lol

My hair is starting to grow back in along with my nails.. woo hoo   But sadly now I have to also start shaving my legs again, the joy of "normal" I guess.

I'm having some complications with my implants which I have to say I'm NOT thrilled about and the pain is getting worse so I'll be having surgery (again) this coming Tueday, Sept 14th.  My scar tissue attached itself to my muscles and it hurts to raise my right arm, it also dropped about 3 inches and both have huge dents in them that even massage didn't help... only made it worse if you can believe it.

I hope everyone is doing well and recovering nicely!

    Love Mairlyn

Glad to see your post, MsMarilyn!

I check our old group every now and then and nothing has been happening. Sorry to hear you have to have surgery again. I have decided not to pursue reconstruction because of stories I have heard like yours, although, there have been plenty that have not had complications. I for one just don't want any more surgery. Good luck tomorrow, will be thinking about you!

Hi Leslie1962-good to hear from you!!

    Question for all of you:

Right under where your breast use to be--do you have any discomfort and maybe a little bit of swelling? Even once in a while, I'll have a sharp quick pain there. (so what are we, 10 months out now?)

FYI - I still have pain under my left side which was removed 2 years ago.  They even did a bone scan because it is in the rib area and it didn't show anyting.  Oddly enough, I don't have any pain on the one they did last year.
