I love that pic of your cat in front of the fire Chrissy.................reminds me of my cat < < who loved lying in front of the heater.  On night he had been right up close to it for a long time when he raised his head to give his tummy a lick.  The next moment he shot up in the air and took off, shaking his head and chewing his tongue as if he had hair stuck to it.     In between laughing my head off and following him, I worked out what was wrong.  He had lain in front of the heater and his fur had become quite hot..........so when he licked himself, he burnt his tongue.
