new microcalcifications after radiation

I was diagnosed with bc last August, had 2 surgeries plus radiation. Went back for my 3-month follow-up mammo only to find that there are two new areas of microcalcifications. Two biopsies are scheduled for this coming Wednesday.

Anybody know what the chances are of recurrence?

I thought that a radiated breast would eliminate the possibility for future breast problems.

Also, those microcalcifications seemed to grow pretty fast as I was last MRI-imaged in August.

Thanks if you can help or direct me to the right forum.

    Dear Tovahsmom:

I sincerely hope your calcifications were benign.  I had lumpectomies last year in September, followed by radiation therapy. My six month mammogram showed calcifications.  Had a stereotactic biopsy today.  Like you, I thought once you had the radiation, it would prevent the cancer from returning, at least in the immediate future.

Sure would like to know if there are others out there who have/had a similar experience.  The calcifications they removed were first seen in 2004, so I am hoping they are benign. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the doctors didn't examine these more closely last year, when I was confirmed with bilateral breast cancer.

I hope that you will have many years of living without this horrible disease.
