Hello, Ladies!

I had lumpectomy performed on 7/19; was told I would be contacted by Fri, July 23 with pathology results.  4pm on 7/23 no call so I sent an email and rec'd a call within 10 minutes from the surgeon's nurse indicating that the surgeon wanted her to call me and let me know my pathology results were still being processed.  As of today Monday, 7/26; I still have no results so of course my mind is racing with negative thoughts and since I will see her tomorrow for my post op visit, and of course I'm thinking she wants to break bad news to me in person.  My Initial sterotatic core biopsy indicated non invasive DCIS at 6:00 with no lymph node involvement; two foci areas shown as 0.15 and 0.3cm, however MRI also picked up an area at 9:00 described as small focus of enhancement which exhibits plateau and washout kinetics.  Lumpectomy was performed on the 6:00 site and biopsy on the 9:00 site.

Anyone else experience a lengthy wait for pathology results?

Zivagirl, I had to wait about a week I think for results after each procedure (biopsy, lumpectomy, re-excision) and it was pretty hellish. I live in NYC, and I get the idea the wait might be a bit shorter in other places where the system isn't as strained. Best wishes for good results and speedy answers.

Yes, I had the same wait as you are going through.  It is horrible, I know it well.  Had my biopsy late Thursday afternoon and was told it would not be back until Monday a.m. with results.  Longest dang weekend I ever lived through.  No call Monday morning, and by 11:30 a.m. I could not stand it any longer and called the Womens Center where it was done.  Radiologist that did it called me back and told me she was so sorry, but the results were still not back, and it would probably be Tuesday a.m. before she knew.  She was correct.  I got my dismal news on Tuesday a.m. - and then the run-a-way train ride began.  Best of luck to you and am so sorry you too have this long intolerable wait.

    Hi Ladies,

Unfortunately, one of the hardest parts of the whole journey is the waiting, and waiting, and waiting some more.  My biopsy was April 6th, was diagnosed April 12th, the longest 6 days I've ever been through.  The lumpectomy results took 5 days, but the longest wait was for the FISH results (my biopsy was Her2+).  At my 2 week follow-up with my surgeon, she asked me what the plan was and I couldn't tell her because the final FISH results were not in.  Forget the follow-up exam; she got on the phone and got those results immediately!  I am somewhat lucky in that I have an excellent team of doctors that listened to me and understood the anxiety and got my results to me as quickly as they could.  Have your doctors try to rush them through.  Best wishes to you!!

My daughter in law at 34 found a lump and had a biopsy done.  When she didnt hear anything after almost a week she called and they told her the doctor had to tell her the results in person.  She went to an appointment with her husband (my son) and her mother while I watched the kids.  They told her almost 2 weeks after the biopsy everything was fine.  I thought it was awful to do that to her, but her news was good.  I hope yours is as well.  Good luck and God bless, Mary
