Just had my annual CT of chest / abd / pelvis on Monday and met with my onc yesterday.  Still NED!  My onc is thrilled as of course I am also!  I had my 10th dose of IV Zometa yesterday and will get one final dose next July unless there is new research supporting using it longer than 5 years.  I have been on Aromasin for 4.5 years and will continue it indefinitely as long as it continues to work.

I know that I will never be totally free from the worry of recurrence but I am grateful to be this far out and feeling better and better.  Early this year I finally decided to stop waiting for the other shoe to drop and start trying to get my body into better shape.  I'm proud to say I have lost 35 lbs since Jan and have more energy than I have had in a long time!

I don't delude myself into ever using the word "cured" but I certainly want to make the most of every day I'm given to enjoy the activities and people I love!

Smile  Thanks for letting me share my good news with all of you.

Linda

Linda, first let me say congratulations for being 5 years out. That's awesome and gives us all such encouragement and hope. And I want to say WOW for dropping 35 lbs!! That's WONDERFUL!!! Good for you. I'm sure you feel great and that's a reason for a happy dance. LOL. During chemo I gained about 30 pounds (comfort food). When my doctor told me there was a bigger chance of recurrence with weight I signed up at the gym and started working out. I am am now 2.5 out NED and 30 pounds lighter!! I think exercise is a big part of feeling better and doing better too so hang in there and keep up the great work!

LindaLou,  I take such strength from reading your posts, and I know others do, too.  I'm so happy that this scan confirms that you're NED.  Letting go of the worry is something we all have to work toward.  Taking action to move beyond all the cancer stuff is what I need to do, too, and I work at it every day.  Congratulations on losing the weight, getting healthy, and living as fully as you do.  I'm very, very glad you come here and share with us. It helps us all.  Thanks.

Thank you so much ladies for all the good comments and support!  I am indeed very grateful to be where I am today.  The older I get the more I recognize the fragility of life and how marvelous a gift it is every day.

SusieMTN - I achieved most of my weight loss by substituting one meal a day for my homemade garden vegetable soup recipe.  I had heard of the Weight Watchers soup and decided to make my own.  I am someone who can eat the same meal everyday for weeks on end if it is something I really like and I have always been a huge soup fan!  A nice piece of crusty hot bread with a little butter and I can get satisfyingly full on a soup meal with very few calories.

In addition I started using a free app on my iPod called "Lose It"  which is a wonderful program to help me track my food intake, calories, exercise and set weight loss goals etc.  Once I started really paying attention to what I was putting into my mouth I realized how many poor choices I had been making without even thinking about it before.  I have changed many bad habits but I am still a believer of "all things in moderation".  I refuse to totally deny myself anything I really love. I drink water exclusively,  use olive oil in my cooking, good fresh fruits and vegetables, no artificial sweeteners, I do use real sugar or honey as sweetners but limit the processed foods and excessive sugary snacks.  I still have my chocolate fix every day, but just in controlled amounts and eating the healthier foods first.

Here is my Garden Vegetable Soup Recipe if anyone would like to give it a try!

Congratulations Linda, I'm so happy for you.  I've just been dx with ILC, still waiting for surgery.  Your story has lifted me a little this morning.  And kudos to you for losing some weight, that recipe sounds great, I love soup too.  Think I'll make some to try to get my body strong for surgery then all the rest of the palava...

LindaLou53  Great idea on the soup meal.  Soup and nice crusty bread - nothing better!!!!  I use to make the WW one when I was on their program and loved it.  Now that you mention it I was also losing some weight.  OK I have been inspired X's 2.  Thanks!

    Susie
