Only 4 more Rads (Boost) left!
Hi All,
I will be finishing my 33 treatments on 7-29-10. Aside from the hour round trip drive for a 3-5 minute treatment, it was not that bad. It's like you know it's going to help you get better, so you just do it. My Rad Onc says I am looking great after 6 weeks of treatment, so I thought I would share what I used. What I found helped me was Natural Care Gel, Emu Oil, Aquafor, Cornstarch and rolled cotton (like they use in a hair salon). Every morning after showering I would use the emu oil, as well as at bedtime. It does take a little time to absorb into the skin, but it is well worth it. I believe the emu oil minimized the overall redness from the rads. After my treatment, which was midday, I would use the Natural Care Gel and cornstarch. I am a little large, so I had a slight amount of breakdown under my breast. As soon as that happened, I started with the Aquaphor 3x a day, and covered it with the rolled cotton. The cotton also kept the skin from chafing - what an excellent idea from my sister!! It cleared up within a day or two, but I continue to use the cotton and aquafor as a preventative measure. It has only been 4 days since my last overall treatment, but I can see and feel my skin starting to return to normal.
My Rad Onc was also impressed with how little fatigue I had. I don't know if it was my supplements or not. I take calcium, D3, fiber and green tea extract daily. I was usually up till 11 pm each night, up at 5 am, and worked full time throughout. I will be starting on Arimidex next week.
I wish all of you just starting Rads all the best. Feel free to ask me anything about my "home care regimen". It worked for me!!
Best Wishes!

Congratulations Yogi's Mom! Glad to hear you're nearly done, and your skin is not doing too badly.

Thanks for the information. I have had 11 our of 23 whole breast and will have boosts after. So far so good. I appreciate your input. I use Udderly smooth during the day and aquafor at night. Next week starts the 3rd week, and I believe that's when things start to happen. I'm not real large (especially since the lumpectomy). I go braless and somethimes during the day go topless. Trying to keep things cool and dry. I'll let you know how it works.
