Just hoping we can gather information on how to get life insurance after being diagnosed.  If you have a helpful suggestion, please share :)

    I wish I knew!

I heard some insurance companies will give you life insurance after 5 years.  The question is usually "Have you been diagnosed with cancer in the past 5 years?"  So make sure you are over 5 years.  I got some junk mail yesterday for life insurance, and it was 10 years on their application - so maybe it varies.  My agent also told me they look at all the medications you took in the past two years - so I don't know what happens if they can see if you are on anti-hormonals and link that to a history of cancer as well.

I also heard that if you are taking a new job some companies will offer you the ability to purchase life insurance without a physical or medical exam up to a certain amount.

I'm hoping to bump this up so someone can answer and add to this Smile

Thanks for posting.  Maybe I put this topic in the wrong forum.  I wasn't sure where to put it.  Well, I think you're probably right about the 5 years.  I am not even 1 year out, had no further treatment after my mastectomies -DCIS with 1 mm IDC, so I thought I might qualify earlier.  I have sent in a couple of applications.  One company I spoke to said I would have qualified earlier if I had needed chemo.  Go figure.  If my diagnosis had been worse, I could get life insurance sooner.  Good news for others that had more extensive treatment, though :)

I see that there is a topic called Insurance and other Financial Issues in the Day to Day Matters Forum.  I will repost my question there.
